I've used Energy United for years, both at my current home and in past rental apartments. Not once have I ever had a problem. Obviously, it sucks if the power goes out. It sometimes does after a storm, because a tree falls on some lines, but that's not Energy United's fault.
The number of times power has gone out for seemingly no reason (on a clear, sunny day or something like that) has only been 4 times in the past ten years. One of those times, a transformer blew right near my home, within seeing distance of my dining room window. Within five minutes, a service truck was on the scene, and things were back to normal within 45 minutes. I've never had to call them to talk to a person, so I can't say anything about the customer service. But I have nothing but good things to say otherwise. :)

I am a customer of Energy United. am considering going to solar panels. Is it true that Energy United does not roll over the excess power your solar panels may provide to the next month or do they just keep the excess and use it for free?

Stopping service due to moving was a breeze. 6 minutes. Meanwhile, CLT water took an hour and told me their system just went down and they would call me back. I have not heard back from them.

The power is pretty good about staying on, but I always see one of the trucks ‘6507’ at Hardee’s in Huntersville. Maybe if they were doing work instead of sitting around all day eating, they could lower the rates a bit!

Late fees higher than actual charge. You will not receive notification of due bills until you have a late fee. They also happen after setting up autopay, and somehow doesn’t work month to month.
I bought solar panels just to be less reliant on these people.

Dealing with this company is a nightmare. They are inconsistent with the rates and the reconnect fees are so petty. They look for ways to make you pay more money

If I could give negative stars I would...Unfortunately I had no other option than to use Energy United. I can say wholeheartedly this is the worst energy company I have ever worked with in my 10+ years of renting. They are a greedy corporate american company who abuses/takes advatage of their customers. I highly recommend finding another provider if you have the option.

During my three years in Huntersville, this was absolutely the best power service I've ever had. I wish I could take it with me back to Charlotte

Quite possibly the worst company to have service your home. I've been a customer for 2+ years, my card info changed after a fraud alert. I was notified of the payment not going through, within 15min i updated to the new card and received an email confirmation that my payment form was updated. I assumed this was all i needed to do...... 8 days later my power was shut of and charged a $40 fee. Pam in customer service was a nightmare. I gave them an updated auto pay 8 days prior to my power being shut off..... and they wont budge on the fee....solid customer service.

So far so good, been a customer less than 6 months but they've been reasonable and helpful throughout.

Customer for years, they shut off power with no clear warning (literally no 'final warning' email or letter, just a tiny line in an email that went into my Spam) for missing a payment by a couple weeks. Day before Thanksgiving. Thought that was illegal, but apparently as a coop they do not have to adhere to Utilities regs, and could shut off power to an over 65 disabled person on Christmas (supervisor's words). Borderline unethical, looking for replacement.

If I could give zero stars I would. The power constantly shuts off. I Have NEVER had as many power outages as I have with energy united. Their equipment is old and needs to be replaced but they are too CHEAP to replace it. Very unfortunate they are the only choice we have for power. Some of our neighbors have Duke energy and the majority of the time when we are without power the Duke energy customers have power, so please explain that!?!?Response to your response: You sure are much quicker with Responding to negative comments and trying to Make your company not look bad then You are with turning the power back on! Look at how many negative reviews you have. If customers had any other option rather than you you would be out of business. And I am not a valued member, I just have no other choice unfortunately!!!! Filing a complaint with the North Carolina rural electrification authority. Sick and tired of Worrying about something catastrophic happening… resetting my clocks and having no AC!!!!!
