Couple of people were helpful. More employees than customers today. My 84 year old mother in law was checking out and I was behind her. 4 checkout people stood and watched as I walked around and put her bags in her cart. Luckily it didn't interrupt their gab fest.

This location is pretty typical for a Food Lion with a few exceptions. There's a few pluses that makes this store better. I like shopping here. As you enter and turn to the right you are in the deli section. You then enter their produce section. The produce department is sectioned off and well stocked. They have a few more items than the other F.L.s in the area. The wine aisles are another bonus for this store. The shelves throughout the store are nicely stocked. The best thing about this store is the checkout process. They seem to always have enough cashiers working hard to get you checked out and on your way. Tonight they had five registers open during a non-peak time. The employees were friendly. It really takes the stress out of grocery shopping!

Best customer service by far their food lion has the most helpful employees who are always ready to help you. They even walk you to your car if you have to many Items and not enough hands.

Still my overall favorite grocery store in my area as they have the lowest prices. They recently upgraded their store so it looks a lot nicer. All the staff is extremely nice and the managers are very helpful. It's always a quick in and out because they always have enough cashiers. In addition they have self checkout.

Once upon a time, I HATED Food Lion. I seriously avoided the place like the plague. I'm not sure 100% why looking back, but I think it has to do with the plaza looking scody and the name. FOOD LION??? What the heck does that have to do with a grocery store? Not to mention, the dark brown brick exterior is dated and frankly, uninviting. For the last six years, I have done most of my grocery shopping at Sam's for bulk items and Super Target in Afton Ridge for everything else. I also used Harris Teeter when forced to for emergency items since it's directly across the street from neighborhood. What made me to switch to Food Lion was the Target remodel. I just COULD NOT deal with that place during construction. I tried and tried because I LOVE Target, but constantly trying to figure out where something moved to AGAIN got old really quickly. Thus, my love affair with Food Lion began. I had never been a big fan of Target's produce and meat so I opted to get it at Sam's. I immediately noticed that Food Lion's produce was much better in both price and quality than Target and Sam's. Their produce is priced really low like Lidl and Aldi. Food Lion can also beat Sam's meat prices if you get them on special. You just have to pay attention to the flyer. I will say Harris Teeter does beat them on whole chicken breast as they have them for $1.99 a pound every day. I have never paid less than $2.99 a pound at Food Lion. However, overall, Food Lion slays Harris Teeter price wise on everything else. For example, fresh pineapple is typically $1.99 at Food Lion and $2.99 at Harris Teeter. I am still a fan of HT's buy 2 get 3 free though. You just have to factor what you are paying for each item to know if its a good price or not. Anyway, back to this Food Lion. It is remodeled, clean and bright on the inside, and well stocked. The staff is always very kind and helpful. There are plenty of them around and several lanes open for quick check out unlike HT, Target and Sam's. There are two employees that kind of irk me, but still provide decent service: the blonde lady in the deli who seems annoyed when you want anything sliced rather than picking something out of the pre-sliced bins and the cashier/bag boy in the RayBans who talks too dang much about anything and everything to his coworkers while they are checking me out. In general, the only real thing I can knock Food Lion for is their high alcohol prices, especially their local craft beer prices. BRING YOUR CHECKBOOK!!! (or go to Teeter). Food Lion does have good wine specials from time to time, but you need know your prices to know if you are getting ripped off or not. Additionally, their private label stuff is great, but the jury is still out on their shredded and blocked cheese. It's fine as part of a recipe, but not for stand alone snacking. The national brands seem to taste better. It could also just be my taste buds... Lastly, be sure to use the Food Lion app! They have all kinds of coupons that you can add to your wallet to save more money. Join their rewards program also. I think it's called shop and earn. You earn money for spending X dollars in different departments i.e. I earned $4 for spending $20 on produce which they took off of my next bill. They also just sent out 10% off coupons (up to $25) for the next 6 or 8 weeks. I actually forgot I had it in my wallet and the woman at customer service happily gave me my $9 in cash when I asked about it. All in all, I am a Food Lion fan for life now that I have been shopping here week after week. Even though the remodel is done, I won't be going back to Target except for over priced designer home goods and clothes.

I headed over to Food Lion to pick up a few items, and it appears that Food Lion has stepped up their game! The store has been remodeled, it is very clean, the shelves are neatly stocked, there's a new dedicated fresh produce section and a new wine area with a pretty decent selection of vino! Another great change is more employees who are quite pleasant and professional with new uniforms walking the store and readily available near the check out counters to better serve customers! Let's now forget to mention the large selection of items on sale!

The businesses located in this area are often overshadowed by those over on the other side of 485, probably due to Afton Ridge being so much flashier, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Food Lion here. It may not be the hare in the race, but this tortoise will certainly take care of most of your daily shopping needs - and as a bonus they are right next to Rosario's Pizza, so you can pop in for a snack on your way in (so you don't overbuy) or on your way out, so you don't have to cook all those precious groceries you just purchased. Either way is a win.
