If you're thinking about working here, my best advice to you would be to seek another job. They don't care about the well-being of their counselors. The Steele Creek YMCA is so wrapped up in their hierarchy that they neglect their counselors and abuse any good-natured person who cares for kids. I was given four different positions that I was not hired for, qualified for, or talked about during the interview process. I was unprepared for or paid nearly enough to take on a teaching position requiring weeks of curriculum writing and planning. The organization was incredibly poor. The leadership staff expects too much of their counselors who don't have the experience they're looking for. They refuse to plainly state their expectations but love to berate you when you don't meet them. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone under the age of 18 as I know for a fact that they edit timesheets to be under a certain limit even if that minor has worked overtime. Don't get caught up in how charismatic the staff are, they have been nothing but unkind during this whole process.

Love seeing them abuse their summer camp counselors while beings severely understaffed! Not only that but their lack of planning is a direct risk to campers and their safety <3

Coming from Dowd..... It's so nice not to wait for equipment.

Typically moderately busy but still plenty of machines available. A wide variety of activities to choose from. Just check hours. No pool. Plenty of parking available. Staff has been friendly.

Nice staff but hours are not. Planet fitness across the street and club fitness up the road are open until 10 during the week and full hours on the weekends. If you don’t have the staff it’s because your not hiring them. Both of these places are a good bit cheaper. Y is the most expensive place in Charlotte.

I love the super convenient location of this Y. It is small and doesn't have a sauna or steam room, but as far as working out goes, it has every piece of equipment you could possibly need. Never crowded when i go super early in the morning.

I signed up for this Y because I wanted to save some money on classes that I take elsewhere. I was very excited to see that they offered a variety of classes. The front desk associate helped me to get myKeytag activated and was very nice. Although after a few weeks of attending the gym I realized I made a mistake. The classes are few and far between as far as schedule. Basically you can take a 6am or 6pm. Now here's what really didn't work for me-the instructors teaching these classes seemed incredibly inexperienced. I took a yoga class and the woman teaching it kept getting confused about the poses and where she left off. It wasn't even a yoga class, it was a lot of strange stretches that aren't real yoga poses. So I decided to try a high intensity class. While the instructor was very upbeat and friendly, I couldn't help but feel like I could be doing this at home for free. The weight room where you would do any weightlifting is separate from the cardio area, and it was incredibly intimidating walking into that room. They also didn't have a stairstepper, which was a big reason why I wanted to work out here. They are also lacking a swimming pool, sauna, anything that would make a nice incentive. All in all I would say this gym is the equivalent of an apartment complex fitness center. The pricing isn't bad if that's what you were looking for, but this was definitely not for me.

They have terrible hours and dont communicate it well. Closed on labor day. No sign or anything. They close at 8pm. Charlotte is too spread out to close so early. We wouldn't be able to make it in time for a decent workout. Open at 530am which needs to be earlier to work the early closing or something. Close randomly when it was a sprinkle of snow. The snow melted in 10min but they closed the entire day. Starting to get more crowded early mornings.

This is a nice Y even though it is small. Free weights including bench press and squat racks. Good selection of machines. Well kept and managed well. Always clean. The Steele Creek area, zip codes 28273 and 28278 definitely need a larger facility. Both zips are growing at a rapid pace. Hopefully the Gill Y at Steelecreek will eventually be constructed. This would be great for the community.

Still not building new facility? The community outsized this location. We don't need Boutique fitness centers in Steele Creek! With all the population growth and housing increase in our community our elected officials need to do something and plan better for our community.

Great Place and the staff is phenomenal. Not the biggest location but definitely one of the most friendliest.

The staff is very mindful of Covid precautions and responsive. I feel comfortable getting back to my workout routine here. Much better than Dowd. Best YMCA in the city!

I've been coming to this YMCA a lot more lately since it's a lot less crowded than the DOWD after work. It's a lot smaller but has all the essential equipment I would use. Parking is easy and I've never had an issue finding a spot. Staff are super friendly and bathrooms are clean. Due to COVID, they require you to pick up a sanitizing spray bottle when you check in to carry around to wipe down the equipment you use. I miss the sanitizing wipes they used to have but was told they damage the machines. Overall, great place to get in a workout without having to wait your turn.
