On April 6, 2024, I rented a car from Dollar Car Rental in Charlotte, North Carolina. The contract I received was for $90.51, with the price prominently highlighted. Upon returning home, I discovered that my credit card had been charged $415.43. Apparently, when they “checked” my paperwork at checkout, they bait and switched it. Didn’t say a word and quadrupled it. Very sneaky. No didn’t check it because I presumed it was the paper I gave them. Check everything.
I attempted to contact Dollar Car Rental to resolve this issue. I spoke with the manager over the phone for two hours, but they were unable to assist me.
I then visited the Dollar Car Rental location in Raleigh, but they were unable to help me and informed me that I needed to return to Charlotte, which is a three-hour drive away. There was no phone number, email address, or contact information for the Charlotte location or agent.
I disputed the charges with American Express and attached the original contract. Dollar Car Rental responded that if I did not pay the full amount, they would take me to a collection agency. The American Express representative stated that he had never encountered such a harsh response and that they had been receiving a significant number of complaints in the last year. Therefore, I was forced to pay $415.23 for one day of rental. It would have been more cost-effective to take an Uber and avoid driving.
I urge others to share their experiences with rental car companies. I hope that a law firm will take action against Dollar Car Rental, and I would be willing to join a lawsuit.

In the world of car rentals it can be stressful. The wonderful lady at the counter Lashae helped me through step by step even when other customers were being difficult around us she stayed professional. She completely turned a bad experiance on its head and helped me secure the protection plan and toll protection for my long trip while dealing with a credit card issue. She is without a doubt a treat to be a customer for.

Dollar rental totally saved us today! Our first flight was VERY delayed and caused us to miss our connection. The next flight home wasn't going to be for 12 more hours. Dollar had vehicles avaliable as soon as we landed. Rates were reasonable, staff was nice, and the car was clean.

If I could give this company negative 5 stars, I would! Dollar Car Rental is a Scam Company with deceptive business practices. I reserved a car in Charlotte, NC for 2 days for ~$120. I provided all my information to Skip the Line at the Airport. However, when I arrived at the airport, the Skip the Line feature failed and I had to go to the counter to get my car. They never told me that the car I reserved was unavailable. Then, they told me that I had 3 choices for insurance on the car. I told them I would decline the insurance and use my own car insurance. They stated that in NC I had to pick one of the 3 insurances that they offered. After wasting 15 minutes talking to 2 agents, I picked the lowest one to get out of there. Then, I discovered (after we drove an hour to our destination that they doubled the rate on our car). I called customer service and they were useless and told me to talk to the agents back in Charlotte when we returned the car. I talked to a Manager at the Charlotte Airport rental counter when we returned the car and he gave me the runaround and more BS. Bottom line, he was also useless!!! Never ever again!!!! Scam artists! Scum! Highly deceptive. I will be posting my experience on many travel web sites and telling everyone I know to never use this company. Stay FAR FAR AWAY from this company! My $120 2 DAY CAR RENTAL RESERVATION RESULTED IN A $414 CHARGE ON MY CREDIT CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OVER $200/day to rent a freakin car!!!!

Guys, this type of service should be illegal. Booked car a month ahead. Was almost rejected at the counter cause “no cars available”, received one after some arguing. Double charged, was sitting on the phone after trip for two weeks, no real connections to humans at customer service, finally get one, received apologies that it was calculated wrong, promised to be refunded, still waiting, month after the trip. Horrible!!

Predatory Sales Practices!!
Car was not available for skip the line pick up even though we signed up for everything. Counter female who refused to give her name stated we had to wait in line and that service is not available. She the state's "manager special" is only for a electric vehicle and if i don't take that i have to pay for an upgrade. I went with the cheapest car available a Toyota Corolla and she said it was $80 more a day!!! Then she would not let me get the car would paying for additional insurance and roadside assistance. Said it was "the law in Charlotte" and I could not and she would not rent me the car without it. She basically stole money from me and left me no choice if I wanted a car. She needs to be fired. I want a refund.

I arrived late and had to wait for a customer service rep, however, when he did arrive at the counter he patiently reviewed my options and then assisted me with my luggage and escorted my mother and I to the car area as there was construction and we couldn't use the escalators because my mom was in a wheelchair. It was so kind of Shaq to give this personal care and help. I greatly appreciated it and hope Dollar Car Rental management sees the great customer service he showed to me and I'm sure others too. Shaq's act of kindness is not a common thing found these days. Thank you Shaq!

NEVER AGAIN! We very clearly made a reservation for a gas engine rental, as we were traveling to some remote mountain locations in Appalachia. When we arrived, they said they only had electric available for our price paid. They wanted to charge double for a gas engine, and we could not afford that. While at the airport we had to get on our phones and get a reservation with a different company, causing a long delay to begin our trip. We ended up with a luxury SUV for much cheaper than these folks wanted for a compact sedan with a gas engine.

I booked a car with dollar online in the US. It was supposed to be a small suv as I decided to pay a little bit more than the cheaper options they had available to try similar cars to the ones I was car shopping. The booking went through and they took 400 dollars from my account as a front payment. Half an hour before I was supposed to pick up the car they cancelled the reservation and even though I had checked in online and everything I had to go to the counter. There not even they didn’t meet the original agreement but they tried to make take a car three times the original agreed price. In the end they agreed to give me the cheapest car they had online for the price I already had booked the suv. I could not ask for the 400 dollars back as I knew that walking to any other company at the very last minute and try to book with through the counter would have costed me an arm and a leg… never again will I book with dollar…

Tried to check in on line to save alot of time and it seemed like a great idea. No it wasn't!!!
Still had to go to the counter and wait.
The car itself was clean and ready but the sales pitch to buy the pre paid tolls was a farce. We ended up paying for something that we didn't need and I'm sure the gentleman at the counter knew this. We didn't encounter 1 single toll the whole trip. Very disappointing. Probably won't use Dollar again. Be honest with your customers at least.

Thank you to Shaq at the Dollar rental at the Charlotte Airport! My rental car experience was a breeze and Shaq was so helpful in answering all of my questions & concerns, and he even assisted me in upgrading my vehicle to a slightly bigger size when I realized my passengers & their luggage weren’t going to fit in the car I selected. Overall very easy experience with no issues. Thank you to the great staff at this location for your assistance!

In between time of booking and date i picked up the car My credit card expiration date had been updated. I tried to call them and given them the correction, but they told me they wanted to charge a fee. I told him I wouldn't accrpt that. so they hung up on me and canceled my reservation the day before my vacation. Everything I just told you here is absolutely true. Do not rent from this company, I switched to Alamo
