This shelter has horrible communication, I feel discriminated against and they are very unprofessional. I will no longer be working with this shelter after my foster dog goes back to her owner.I applied to be a foster for this shelter and was approved. I received my first foster dog from this shelter through an email, she was a special foster being that she still has an owner.Everything was fine, until about a month into having her, I had to call the shelter to get more dog food. I was told to come to the shelter and it’ll be ready. That day, I also decided to bring home another foster dog. Upon arrival, the two ladies at the desk just looked at me & didn’t ask to help me. Other people came in after me, and they kept calling them before me, while they still kept looking over at me. Apparently, i was the only customer that needed to sign in to be able to get help. SMH, FIRST RED FLAG.Finally got to the counter for help, AFTER TWO HOURS OF WAITING, SECOND RED FLAG. The lady at the desk wasn’t very welcoming, she always seems like she doesn’t enjoy her job. I got the supplies & informed her of the dog i wanted. She told me about his medical conditions & brought him out to me. She didn’t give me his medication which I hadn’t noticed until I got home. So I emailed them. No response, even days later. So I then began calling. Nobody would answer… Over the span of a week, I’ve called about 10 times, & have left voicemails, stating I would like to adopt & asking about his medication. Still no response and nobody reached out.A lady found the dog on the website, and she wanted to adopt. ONLY THEN IS WHEN I FINALLY RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM THE SHELTER stating that this lady has tried to email me (emails were going to spam). I replied back to the email stating I wanted to adopt & they had to nerve to say that they have no records of me wanting to keep the foster dog. Well, if voicemails were checks and calls were returned, you guys would have known that before anybody else reached out to adopt!Later that same day, the owner of the dog reached out to me after he found his dog on the website, wanting to get his dog back. Again, it was very hard to get in contact with the shelter. I had to call the supervisor line 7 times in a day for someone to pick up. I was told to coordinate a time to meet the owner at the shelter with his dog so he can get it back. I informed the lady that wanted to adopt the second foster dog that the owner finally found his dog and he is getting it back. She went to the shelter anyway, & somehow was allowed to still go through adoption despite what I was told. The shelter called me today and told me about the adoption, I asked how is that possible after I spoke to supervisors on what to do with the owner & apparently people who are not supervisors are answering the supervisor line. She also said whatever staff members I spoke to must not know the policies regarding adoptions and reclaiming. There was two people who I spoke to, the man who answered the supervisor line & the lady he put on the phone at the front desk.

I haven't had a great experience. I adopted two cats last October. One couldn't be neutered at adoption because he was underweight.I have made numerous attempts to get him in for his procedure but no one ever calls me back. Please reach out to me.

I had gone to the Humane Society in Fort Mill and two Pet Smarts before finally coming to CMPD Animal Care and Control and boy am I glad I did! I could never ask for a better cat. The only con is that she had to be spayed it was a requirement for adoption :(

I just adopted the sweetest little man (beagle/Chihuahua mix) from here and now my family is complete.Everyone here was so helpful and informative. I will always come here to adopt a pet and suggest anyone that is looking for a pet to come down here FIRST when you’re ready to open you heart and home to a fur baby.

So happy with our sweet kitten! I can tell she was loved on and well provided for prior to adoption. While the lines can be long (because they offer free or minimal cost/donation based adoptions), we were able to meet and adopt same day. It would be great to see more volunteers that could help with interactions and with folks in the line that may have questions. But overall, the process was quick, non invasive. They are truly wanting these animals to find good homes.

Love our Darla. Thank you Kathy for letting us get her. She loves being in the basement and MEOWED at us for the first time like are you sure you don't want this. She evidently saw a mouse. We have been visiting her and she hides. But her litter box shows that she is eating extremely well. Evidently mice are delicious to cats. I heard her meow and went to tell her Hi. I'm hoping that she'll let us pet her soon but regardless she is our fur ever cat and she's so beautiful. More to follow if I can on this site.

8/10/2023, 11:45 AM: Useless. I brought in a dog I found hit by a car on Freedom Drive. There were three ladies at the front desk helping people. They looked at me after I told them he was dying, then went back to helping the other customers there for fostering and adoptions. I waited for 20 min, no one ever came up from the back, so I took him to a nearby vet instead who rushed out to my car to help with a humane good Samaritan euthanasia. I know they are under a lot of pressure and desensitized, but I hope they never get treated so dismissively when they are the ones with a true emergency.

About a month ago my next door neighbor had called animal control on a doe in her backyard. As the officer was moving the very obviously still alive (as she was moving quite a bit) deer into the van, I heard bleating and saw a day old fawn looking for it's mother. I'm not sure if there were complications when she gave birth or if she were simply resting but the fawn was in plain sight and the officer ignored it. I chased after him in attempt to let him know that she had a baby and most likely recently gave birth, but he just got in his van and drove off. Thankfully I was able to get the fawn and it's twin (which I later found across the street in my other neighbor's yard) to a rehabilitation center, where they told us that they couldn't have been older than 24 hours. No idea what happened to the mom, just glad the kids are safe. Very disappointed in the officer who neglected the other half of the situation though.

People who works over-here are a heroes! They doing so much! Shelter is full of different dogs. It is heartbreaking to see how many dogs, mostly pit-bulls over there. My neighbors found such a great german shepherd out on the street, and we did as much as we could to find owner, but no one responded. We took dog to animal control facility and they scanned his microchip. Unfortunately owner didn’t respond to a call and mailbox is full. It is such a beautiful and loyal dog, I wish he can find better way over time, and family who can train it properly.

Our family loves that they do staycations here it gives all the pups a chance to get into a more comfortable environment to see the personality and help them get adopted faster. This past week we found our match and adopted 'ghost' he's 90lb of pure joy! Can't thank this shelter enough for all they do!

My father and I went to look for a pet he could spend time with while I was at work and they were so helpful and the process was faster than I thought it would be. We adopted a kitten that my father absolutely loves. So glad we stopped in. She is adorable!
