I would give 0 if I could. At first this older dude was super sweet and helpful- left on great terms and told him we'd send people his way if they needed any hardware. Dude sold my boyfriend a wire cutter saying that it would cut what we needed it to. It didn't make much of a dent. He had to return it because it didn't do what he promised it could. He returned it and then the man came storming out and started yelling about it being used. When he tried cutting the wire himself, he saw it clearly didn't work. So he accused my boyfriend of ripping him off $20 dollars- tried to disparage his character in front of another customer and banned him from the store. Then in anger threw the damaged wire cutters at the wall. This man has anger issues. I will never support him or recommend him to anyone in chapel hill.

Great shop, convenient location. The owner is such a wonderfully kind and helpful man! I love shopping local and strengthening my local community instead of buying from some corporate behemoth.

Great selection and customer service! The nicest owner ever, he is so helpful and tells hilarious jokes. It's such a pleasure to shop at a friendly local store like Brown's versus some impersonal corporate store where the employees are bored and underpaid. Shop local! :)

great hardware store! I have been going there for 2 decades. Can walk from UNC campus, super convenient. very friendly and knowledgeable owner. And NOT a Big Box store!

Nice store owner. I just needed a couple screws but he just waved his hand and told me to take them free of charge. It's only hardware store I think that's walking distance from Unc campus

They've got your basics covered and more. Call ahead to make sure. It's great to see a small, local hardware store surviving. I'm positive that it's due to their great service and convenient location.
