A thousand times more convenient than going to Lowe's or Home Depot, especially if you live close by and even if you don't. They have most things I need and someone to help me find them. Lumber is much easier than at the big box stores: you simply tell them what you want and then have it loaded directly into your car or truck at the warehouse. Plus it's a small business so profits stay here in town.

I am a contractor and went here to purchase hardwood for a woodworking project. Nice selection of odds and ends in the store, however upon enquiring about the purchase of hardwood I was told that I couldn't pick out the wood I wanted for changing reasons. The first was safety issues(you pick your own lumber out at Lowe's)the second was he had one guy that would have to pull out wood for me to see it. Honestly sounded like he was lazy and didn't want to walk outside. Kinda misleading with the company name "lumber and hardware". Thanks Fitch lumber and hardware! saved me hundreds of dollars today and missed out on potentially thousands in sales because I buy hardwoods quite frequently. Will continue taking my business to capital city lumber where I can actually see the product I intend to buy.

The staff at Fitch were so incredibly helpful when I found myself having to replace all the door locks to my house. Not only did they help me explain how to get the locks out, they expedited the new key making process when they saw how stressed I was. Love this place.

We've used Fitch for several projects in our remodel: first, interior doors (made it easy!) and now exterior door replacements. Bill is huge resource for us and made the entire experience as seamless as possible. Door orders are very detail oriented, and Bill was incredibly helpful through out every step and was patient with us in making sure the order was complete and correct. He kept us informed and also made sure we had literally everything we needed for a successful project. The results were outstanding (house looks great and the doors are beautiful!), and the delivery/install was painless . Already on to the next project we will source from them.We have lots of resources/options in the area we can choose from, we continue to use Fitch because of their service and quality. Thank you for your help!

I purchased a few beautiful Marvin windows and patio doors from Fitch and they offered incredible service throughout the entire process. Bill helped me with a dozen iterations on my dimensions and order. Not only was the service great, but this is the reason why you order from a family-owned local business: When I had a small issue with the doors (not Fitch's fault), one of the co-owners (Fitch family member) **came to my house** and helped me to figure out how to make it right. A++ experience.

We've been shopping at Fitch Lumber since we moved to Chapel Hill in 1975 and have always been satisfied customers -- top quality goods and excellent service. In 2020 we replaced our deck, purchasing the materials at Fitch Lumber. The finished project is outstanding, and visitors always comment on the gorgeous, functional metal and cable railing. When we needed to replace a door, of course, we started at Fitch Lumber. Bill Bohuslaw educated us on what we needed to know about outside door replacement, ensured we got exactly the materials we needed, provided us with a list of installers, and arranged delivery. When the door was installed this week, everything the installer needed was here, and he was able to get the job done quickly and efficiently. This saved us a significant amount of money. Clearly, we will be repeat customers at Fitch Lumber.

Waited for their woodshop to respond to email for quote for 2 weeks, only for them to tell me that they have no "manpower" to do anything these days. So, if you want any woodwork, they are no longer the place.PS: It's even more disappointing to see you reply to this review in 10 minutes, which just shows there was capacity to respond to my emails for the woodshop two weeks ago.

Bill Bohuslaw helped me order the correct door for my sunroom project. Bill was knowledgable, pleasant, professional and extremely helpful in my transaction.. When I thought I had an issue, Bill was proactive and responded immediately!I will definitely buy from Fitch again and find Bill for my next project!

Bill Bohuslaw helped us order additional windows for our home, and his service was PHENOMENAL! His communications were always prompt, and he was incredibly helpful at every stage of the ordering process. Since we were ordering windows that match those that had been ordered by the builder of our house through Fitch Lumber 4 years previously, he even searched through records of archived orders to get the exact details for us. We are beyond impressed by his exemplar customer service and attentive care!
