Hotel under serious renovation, July '24 — but the dining bar & patio in back are open. Nice bar service and excellent pork offerings, among some other items.

Happy to have a place to get a drink after 9pm in Burnsville. Stopped by Roland’s on Thursday and it was the only place open in town. Nice bartender - attentive service.

The Nuwaray is currently under renovation and everything is closed except for the bar area and grounds behind the inn.The bar has a very cool vibe, excellent and friendly bartenders, and a great Old Fashioned. The deck area is newly built and is immaculate with beautiful mountain laurel bannisters, multi levels, and small but pleasant water feature, huge stone firepit and multiple artsy installations. It is well lit with hanging lights but not overly bright. The owner is as friendly a person as you could ever hope to engage with.I can not wait to see what the rest of the renovation is gping to look like- so far everything is excellent!

Currently closed for renovation- still to walk around the exterior of this historic structure is great!. I love old hotels, and am excited to see how the update looks. Front porch with the chairs is classic. One can sit and enjoy the calm of the towns square across the street. It's a beauty= worth checking out

We stayed two nights in late August 2021 at the NuRay Inn. The building is great w/ it’s history but in need of some exterior TLC. With no one manning the lobby, we checked in by calling the Inn from our cell phone. The only employee we saw was young guy the morning of checkout. That wasn’t a huge deal but spiders & ants in the room were a huge issue.Standing on a chair smacking spiders & rinsing off the mouthpiece to a CPAP machine were unacceptable. This would be an awesome place to have a large event but we would go elsewhere for lodging.

We recently held a family reunion with 35+ people at the Nu Wray Inn and it was just the perfect place for this type of event. In general, I love the Inn. It has so much character and it's been beautifully redone and maintained. I love the spaces and the nooks and crannies and the features. It has a few wrinkles - so if you're a white robe hotel kind of person, there are probably better places for a reunion for you.Why is it perfect for a reunion? 1. The kitchen. Having access to a full commercial kitchen (and dishwasher) was awesome. 2. Having the big dining room all to ourselves. We could spread out and have our memorabilia and photos and games staged for the entire event. And could spread out the buffet for dinners. If you've ever tried to feed 35 people at a time, this is such a plus. 3. The multiple gathering areas. We had music on the upper balcony, coloring in the upstairs sitting area, games in the back yard, and old folks reminiscing on the front porch. 4. The town. A grocery store within walking distance is always a bonus. But the charm of walking around the town, getting a coffee or lunch, or grabbing a beer was a good add. 5. Western North Carolina. Hiking, museums, wineries, Asheville... the variety of options is also a value-add for a reunion. And last but not least - the proprietors. Christy and Jill and their team gave us the space and trusted us to take care of their Inn and have a great family reunion. And we did. We have been to a lot of places for our reunions and so far the Nu Wray Inn is at the top of the list. Not sure we can beat it at another location, so we might just have to come back.
