“I spoke with a young lady who had been a vet tech for a few years. She was knowledgeable. I met with a pup I had seen online. She seemed perfect for our family. I completed an application and am hopeful to receive some great news on Tuesday. There was also a kennel attendant who had adopted a dog from the shelter. She was very sweet. The director popped in about a dog in need. It's obvious these folks care for the dogs and cats in their care. The facility and grounds were ok. I came to find out that they will not consider you for an adoptive home unless all of your pets are regularly vetted. I have had dogs, cats, birds and small animals my entire life. I had a TNR program in Forsyth county. Where I caught, vetted and spay/neutered all of the cats and found homes for kittens with a spay/neuter contract. I was told that the director refused me as an adoptive home because I did not regularly vet me cats ages 22, 5, 4.5 yrs. My cats are all spay/neuter and in excellent health. They do not ever go outside. Our dog, a rescue from Buncombe county is in tip top health, receives heartworm prevention, all pets receive topical flea treatments, and our pup sees the vet every 6 months. He just had a dental and physical. I have adopted from Jackson, Asheville, Brother Wolf and others east of Forsyth County. I have also rescued numerous cats and dogs. It seems dog rescue has become more about business than proper placement. The price for adoption was $165, plus $100 deposit for spay. That's $265. You must wonder why with so many animals being euthanized in the US why shelters are charging premiums for adoption fees. Some charge $350 and above. We criticize people who are not responsible breeders or pet stores who sell puppies and kittens. Isn't this the same? This has created a market for pets online. People can just breed pets and sell them for $50. It's sad. Although I love this pup. I will never recommend this shelter or let a friend or family member waste their time. Truly sad. ?”
