TLDR: Regear is exploitive, sells used poorly functioning ski goggles to last minute families whom already aren’t “loaded” when the same priced new gear is available up the road near the ski resort. When they sell a broken piece, they deny and state their policy is zero return. They need policy that’s in line with their website, to be better for environment, and to be more customer relations loyalty based. When you sell poorly functioning gear to someone that thinks they have no other choice, that’s exploitation.
I’ve basically never left a review like this, but ultimately when a company (even small) is 100% money grab and exploitive contrary to their websites local mission, then I felt compelled to do so. The owner is free to reach out to me to modify this review.
I got a recommendation go to regear. Because I decided to take an impromptu trip from Florida with my 2 boys who had never even seen snow, I didn’t have time to buy some ski goggles on Amazon, I felt safe thinking I could grab 3 pair of mid to low tier at a ski shop. Oddly even sporting goods shops near North Caroline don’t have ski goggles (who knew?)
I get to regear, we’re losing morning hours on a limited trip already so I wouldn’t have the luxury to hit every ski shop From Boone to Beech Mtn price shopping goggles. The goggles they have are all wayyyy more than I was expecting. A big display of $50+ goggles all quite used and not top tier, or a cardboard box of what looked like $20 goggles from amazon mostly all heavily used.
The photos show what I could find as the best possible choice out of the 50 pairs they had. Yes, they were selling what was likely lost and forgotten goggles of the slopes to the next user for $50. And the worst part was zero return policy. Utter cash grab.
50 minutes after that receipt I get to Beech Mtn and as I hand out goggles to the boys, go to put the 3rd pair on and the clasp is broken. I can see how it was overlooked, by whomever at the shop handled it because it’s such a thin piece. I called the shop immediately “hey Brandon, you just helped me with sifting through some goggles.” “Yeah man, I remember, what’s up.” “One of the pair that I just got, well I just got to the mountain, and the plastic clasp on the band is broken, if I bring these back tonight or in the morning could we do an exchange or something, I know I just read the receipt and there’s a no return policy” Brandon “well, since we sold them to you working, I don’t know.” “Uh no these looked like they were working but the clasp is broken, and it is really small, I could see how whoever sorted through these missed it, but it’s not going to hold the way it is.” “well my boss comes in tomorrow, I can leave a note saying what happened and you can talk to him.”
I had no choice but to use the goggles and hope they didn’t fly off, I ended up pushing the broken piece through another part of the clasp. They fogged up like mad anyway, along with another pair we got (probably previous owners wiped too hard on the interior anti-fog coating)
The 3rd pair AND THE CHEAPEST lolz was perfectly fine all day, but was heavily tinted and my boy couldn’t see through them for the night skiing.
So while sitting defeated at the Beech Mtn insanely overpriced cafeteria (seriously how is Disney World food both cheaper and better?), I decided to drive 7 minutes from Beech Mtn parking down to Freds General Mercantile store, and FOUND BRAND NEW Scott goggles for $35 and $50!
I was both infuriated at Regear and relieved at the same time.
The exploitive part is simply that googles and sunglasses work best when not scratched, they were selling scratched and abrased goggles for $50, when one can simply go toward the ski slope and find new for the same price, and they know it.
Am I going to Regear again? No, never again, I would have happily done so had when I called, they guy said “oh man sorry about that, come

Regear is the jam. Super nice staff, good deals, and they crank out fresh stuff on a weekly (huge discounts on Arc'teryx, Patagonia, Black Diamond, La Sportiva, Carhartt, Kuul, Lulu, Fox, and a bunch of other sick brands)

Yes this store has good selection of items but wildly overpriced. Smart wool pull over for $50? Used? And bogs boots higher priced than what I bought online new, and these had crusted mud on the tread. Clean ALL your consignments if you're going to resell for more than new price.

One of our favorite stores in Boone. Great service, good prices on excellent used gear and clothing. I appreciate the Veterans discount also.
