I have a young man working on a project at my house. He is young, so out of respect for his privacy, we will call him Dave. Dave is doing a killer job. If you have property in the area, you will probably meet Dave in the future because he is incredibly skilled at construction, and will no doubt continue to build his already loyal and growing customer base.Anyway, because I believe we should all shop local, Dave is using New River for purchases which come up during the project.**Well, Dave is routinely talked down to, insulted, and generally made to feel like an idiot by a middle aged man employed at New River (50s maybe) who is mainly encountered outside in the lumberyard.** Dave is the kindest, most gentlemanly young man you could hope to meet, and an excellent worker, and community member. I can't wrap my head around why this lumber yard troll has decided to mistreat Dave multiple times now. Saddest part? DAVE WAS SAVING ALL OF THE MONEY I'M PAYING HIM TO BUY NEW TOOLS AT NEW RIVER, and now he is on the fence given the lousy treatment, and will likely take his/our business elsewhere in the future. Would you spend money at a place where you will be made to feel like a fool each visit by the same guy? Guessing not.New River, get that rude guy out of there! If he can't treat customers with respect, let him go work at a morgue where the person on the the table won't give a damn how he treats them. I'm guessing we aren't the first and won't be the last people who choose to go somewhere else because of that guy. And before you "Thank me for my comment" and tell us how you "strive to provide the highest level of customer service" and all that other mess, do your research -- because I've done mine. Despite the many, many, positive reviews your company has (which are clearly great, not taking anything away from that), it is time to face the fact that there is a nasty little pattern of rude and disrespectful interactions with customers which are a common theme in bad reviews from your customers, so perhaps you should consider this problem for how serious it is. If you'd rather talk numbers, in my case alone, it will cause you to lose thousands of dollars. Please work on weeding out some of those Customer Service(?) reps who could be replaced by a trained pig (which would at least be polite to work with), and hire people who will do your name proud.- Signed "The guy paying Dave, who was in turn planning to pay New River, but may be forced to reconsider based on sheer principles of common decency"

Great service. We don't need to talk about lumber prices. This is the best you will get for a reasonable price

Carries dewalt flex volt and milwaukee unlike lowes, also substantially cheaper than lowes, example being 8 inch dewalt plug in table saw is $400 at lowes while just $300 at New River, both stores, Boone and Beech Mountain area have very helpful friendly staff, they offer discounts if you get an account with them as well. Not to mention they are local and have better quality wood.

The owner is extremely rude and disrespectful. I will never recommend his business to any of the contractors I work with and this is not the reputable business that the reviews seem to reflect. I am appalled and will refuse to do business with such a disgusting person and business model. With such low personal morals, how can you even live with yourself...?!!? He buys low cheap quality products and up sells/up charges the absolute hell out of his customers to the point where quality comes last and his profit comes first. This is just another greedy business man without a care in the world for his reputation or customers. The only thing this company will give you is China made half rotten beat up refurbished crap. I hope your customers realize this so they can stop getting taken advantage of by crooks like you.

Great products, superior customer service, friendly staff, and fast shipping: New River Building Supply scores on all counts. I have a small log outbuilding that needed chinking. Rather than go with traditional Portland cement over metal lath, based on a friend's recommendation, I decided to use Log Jam synthetic chinking by Sashco. The closest supplier to me was NRBS, so I gave them a call. I worked with Hannah, who got me the right stuff, and got it shipped FAST. The job is now done - in no small measure due to the great service from Hahhah and NRBS. I recommend them without hesitation or reservation and will DEFINITELY do business with them in the future.

Worked with Kevin to order exterior doors for our home. He was very knowledgeable, patient and friendly. He let us know a few ways to save money that only he would know and gave us tips on a range of topics that were very helpful

Great selection, but service is lacking. Customers are left confused on how to pick up orders and virtually no guidance is given. They make it your responsibility to get the order paper from the office, find someone on a forklift, wait for them to be free, and ask for assistance. Each time (well over 5 times) I have been, I have had to wait close to an hour for them to help me (even after I have given the order form to a worker). New River has also allowed me to buy stock that they were then unable to find, and sent me looking in the warehouse for it instead of helping me. They are unfortunately the only business in town which can fulfill my orders, but each time I have to pick up an order it wastes half my day. They need to restructure and make it friendlier to the customers who are not familiar with lumber yards and provide more clear instructions on how to get your order and where. Fix this, New River.
