Our family LOVES Mountain Thread Company! We went for the first time when it opened 8 years ago and visiting Katherine and seeing her beautiful shop has become our favorite part of our annual Christmas tree trip. Katherine is inspiring and encouraging and just incredibly kind and generous. She held my hand through the process of making my first quilt tops and it was one of the greatest and proudest experiences of my life to pick them up from being quilted and bound by her. She always remembers us which means the world to my children, especially when she does awesome things like show them how the long arm works and how she forms her baskets and even how she operates the cash register. I truly cannot say enough about how much we delight in visiting and how thankful I am that she told me that I could make a quilt all those years ago and sent me off with handwritten instructions and an invitation to call her for help anytime I needed it. Just the very best and most delightful experience!

Katherine and her team were extremely helpful and informative as I learned all about rope and picked out some fabrics for a camping quilt! I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Blowing Rock (the town and the actual rock!) it was my first time visiting but whenever I return to town I will most definitely return! And I have a feeling I’ll be ordering more rope…?

It was the sweetest little “accident” to happen upon this quilt/fabric/basket shop during our weekend getaway in Blowing Rock. The shop itself inspires so much creativity and it was full of beauty and color and creation and charm. I could’ve spent all day there! I am new to quilting and Katherine taught me so much about fabric and selecting prints just in the relatively short time I was there. ❤️ Make sure you stop by if you are in town! I can’t wait to visit again!

Don't miss this store in the yellow Martin House in downtown Blowing Rock. Locally owned and operated with a friendly, knowledgable staff, the MTC features handmade rope baskets and other products. Custom order a piece or pick from a ready-made selection, the shop also features finished quilts and a WIDE range of colorful and great fabric selections. Stop in, you won't regret it!

Tucked away in the town of Blowing Rock, NC, is an amazing fabric/modern craft studio. After spending months searching well known fabric shops in city after city as far away as Indianapolis, IN, I stumbled upon a treasure. A shop filled with one of a kind fabrics and Katherine Lile. Katherine found me the perfect fabric. She was more than patient, even drew an illustration of my project. I encourage you to take a trip to the NC mountains and absolutely stop on Main Street in Blowing Rock and visit Katherine!!

This is my favorite fabric shop. The selection of fabrics are unique and different from what I can find in other quilt stores that carry the more popular commercial lines of fabric. I love that they have a large selection of fat quarters available and are always willing to cut fat quarters off of yardage if I just want fat quarters. The fabric is beautiful and the quality is excellent. I am a quilter and I love shopping for fabric here because the fabrics are inspiring and enable me to create something different and unique. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and I've never had a problem getting waited on or help when I ask. This is definitely my go to place when looking for fabric and worth the drive.

I love this shop! The rope baskets are unique and make great gifts, as well as treats for your own home. They also have lots of lovely fabrics, and the owner is lovely. They are in the Martin House (the big yellow house next to the park) in Blowing Rock. Definitely worth a visit!

This store is such a great shop. I can stay at this store for a long time. A woman who was sewing a rope explained a lot. Fantastic and creative. I love that. I will check this house’s website soon.
