They were nice people working there, but that is the most positive information I can provide. It’s a small business, so there is no one working at night, just an emergency number. That’s actually fine. But our shower had no hot water in the morning. We kept turning the hot water on and nothing. We left a message and checked when we returned from a hike. We were told that the room had hot water going to it. Nice gentleman came back to the room to show us & he realized the problem is the knob. (I had a cold shower earlier & the tub had not drained.) He offered us another room in which to shower. Not sure why he didn’t contact us about the hot water to better follow up on our original concern. Also, never offered a refund for such an inconvenience. I guess this is a place to stay for a night; I’m grateful it wasn’t longer. And they are nice people.

So I rescued a small kitten on the way on my trip Stopped and bought a kennel and everything the kitten would need until I could get him back home searched for a pet friendly Motel this motel was listed on several sites as being Pet Friendly I paid the extra $ for the rescue kitten upon arrival never said or even ask what kind of pet.Stayed for 2 nites.Left room with no trash at all took it out myself. Room was left clean even threw away used bar of soap.I spilled some cat litter out of the container by accident even tryed to get it up but with no broom or vacuum I think I just spreaded it .But I did try.But other than them Vacuuming the Room was left better than most.So when I left and got back home I noticed they had charged me another Pet fee. That made $100 for 2 nites for the kitten.Called and they said because I spilled a little cat litter it was damage to the room They had to vacuum anyway. But didnt have to do much of nothing else.and it's listed Pet Friendly on 3 sites. Its Dog friendly only.NOT PET FRIENDLY..Still glad I saved the ?..So my total Price for 2 nites was $672 for a Basic room no extras plain.
Rooms: Comfortable but plain.

I wish no stars were an option. My husband and I booked the Tarheel suite (1 of 2 suites) for 2 nights. Immediately upon checking in I noticed that there was dog hair all over the rug outside the door to the room as well as dog slobber all over the windows. Upon entering, there was even more dog hair inside on the floor as well as furniture. Additionally, there were muddy foot prints all over the floor. I returned to the office and requested to speak to a manager by the name of “Sam” who refused to provide me his last name. I requested a refund and to cancel my reservation, as the property was filthy. I requested for Sam to come see the room to validate our concerns that it had not been cleaned, to which he responded “ I am not interested”. Sam was rude and condescending. He refused to issue a refund, as we were obviously below the 72 hour cancellation window despite it being no fault of our own. As if it was unreasonable for me to expect a clean room upon arrival. Sam’s solution was to have the room re-cleaned, which was unacceptable. Clean rooms should be the standard for the amount of money we paid. I inquired as to whether there was a comparable room available (he did not offer). There was one other suite available that appeared to be clean so we agreed to proceed with our reservation despite. This “manager” had the audacity to request more money from us. At this point, my husband and I were so disgusted that we left. I have never experienced such lack of professionalism, customer service, or accountability. Hopefully, since we were refused a refund for an absolutely filthy room the property owner’s can utilize these funds to hire a professional cleaning crew or perhaps send their “manager” to a course to enhance his management and communication skills.Rooms: Filthy.

Hillwinds Inn did not meet even the most basic of requirements for running a hotel. At a bare minimum, I should have a clean room and be able to take a hot shower. Additionally, when mistakes happen, they should be apologized for and corrected in a timely manner. Here are a few of the issues:1. Check in - the check in time posted on the website cited 3pm as check in. I arrived at 5:30pm and was informed that my room was not ready. I was not communicated with in advance that there would be a delay in check in and the staff offered no apology or means of making the situation right. We were also told that the room would be ready in 1 hr and that we would receive a call. An hour and fifteen minutes later, we had not received a call and walked back to check as we were anxious that the issue wouldn’t be resolved prior to the office closing at 8pm. We arrived to find the receptionist on her phone and still had to wait a few more minutes to get in to our room. Again, no apologies that we were not allowed in our room until almost 7pm and our dinner plans ruined.2. No hot water - the next morning, we awoke to no hot water in our room. We tried the sink and the shower and let the tap run for 10 minutes to give ample time to heat up. I called the property to report the issue. After waiting an hour for help, I walked to reception to ask for help but it was closed. No one ever came to fix the issue, we had no hot water for 2 days & no apology.3. Unacceptable room condition: pilling bed linens, damaged curtains, dirty towels, broken phone, etc. Also, housekeeping didn’t come for 2 days.4. I emailed management to share my experience and did not receive a reply for two days. Upon calling, staff rudely refused to refund my money and to allow me to speak to upper management.

This is my second time visiting this little gem and we loved it. Quaint and close to everything. They had a great restaurant they referred us to for delicious biscuits, Hellbenders, it was fantastic. No need for any type of customer service because our stay required no assistance. My only, minor complaint was low water pressure in the sink. Everything was so clean, loved the rocking chairs out front and of course the screen doors are always a win. Looking forward to next time again!

I had a highly disappointing experience with the staff and management of this hotel.Avoid this hotel at all costs, as the customer service is worse than a Super 8.Despite following all procedures to retrieve my forgotten pillow, the staff's negligence led to me paying for shipping costs due to their mistake. The manager, Griffin, dismissively claimed they aren't liable for forgotten items, which was not the point here.I live in Charlotte and drove a total of 4 hrs only to return empty-handed after their staff mistakenly let someone take my pillow home. Now, they want me to drive back to blowing rock or cover the shipping costs for their error. Avoid this hotel – a wasted trip and terrible customer service.

I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM HILLWINDS INN & IT'S SISTER HOTELS. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR GUESTS!!10/18 UPDATE: I informed hotel management and filed an official complaint about the horrible accommodation, staff, & service with pictures & videos attached. So far, they have not responded or even acknowledged the receipt of my complaint.$350/night incl. taxes: Tub faucet handle broken, tub drained very slowly, faucet handle over the sink kept coming loose. Could not get hot water. Emergency staff told us to use a screwdriver to tighten the faucet. (Did he expect for us to travel with a screwdriver?) Emergency staff (young, college-aged man) on the evening of 10/14 and same staff in the office in the morning of 10/15 was very rude. He even asked if we really needed to take a shower that evening. He also told us if we want working room to book an apartment or lodge next time. No one came to fix the room. We had to take cold showers.

Description says office will be closed at 7pm, we arrived a few minutes before 7pm, but it was already closed, there's a notice on the door saying keys will left in a box for easy check in but there's no key for us and we had to call and waited 10 minutes for someone to come back for us to check in, but I wouldn't bother to leave a negative feedback if only for this. What we couldn't stand was the room was COLD, the air conditioner wasn't working only blowing cold air while the outside temperature was 30s! Room was clean though.

I recently booked 4 rooms at the Hillwinds Inn two days before we were going to be in Blowing Rock for a motorcycle trip. I booked directly with them so there wouldn't be any problems. Unfortunately we couldn't get there because of the weather so I called them about 5 hours after I booked to get it cancelled. They refused to work with us in any way. We tried to get them to give us a credit or rain check since we come to Blowing Rock frequently, but they said their "policy" didn't allow it. They made over $750 off of us, but none of us will ever stay at the Hillwinds Inn, or the other 4 properties this group manages again. And all of us have friends that go to Blowing Rock, so probably not a wise business decision on the part of the manager.

The location is good and they take dogs (even though they charge you $25/day and not a one-time fee per stay), after that there's nothing positive to say. Customer service is non-existent. Last night the fire alarm in our room started chirping at 3:30am. There was no one on duty. You had to call an emergency number posted on office door and the person who answered was not about to come and fix problem. When I spoke to the manager the next morning his answer was it was not the fault of the motel and there was nothing he could do. When I explained about routine changing of batteries on a yearly basis, the manager said "it wasn't worth it because you can always get a bad battery". Lack of maintenance is on full display every where you look.
