We stayed in July. We were happy with the room. I mean, it was rustic, dated, but clean. And staff was helpful and friendly.
We visited again at the end of Sept. and it was dreadful. When I saw the room they initially gave us, I didn't know if I wanted to vomit, or cry. My husband told them we needed to upgrade to a King Room. We initially booked the Queen room thinking we would have more space in the room for our dog. However, the room was actually tinier than the King. My husband should have told them the truth. It wasn't necessarily about the lack of space in the room, but more about the room being gross and unacceptable.
I won't go into details, but I will never visit the Avon Motel ever again. It's a hit/miss.
Either you will have friendly staff, and a decent room, or you will have a nightmare, with a staff who doesn't give a care.
Nearby activities: They have fun restaurants, and beaches to drive on to.

I've been staying here for over 2 decades along with many other family and friends. Everyone is very down home, nice and knowledgeable about the island..
Rooms: Nice and clean
Nearby activities: In the middle of everything, stores, restaurants and shops.
Safety: Great very safe
Walkability: Stores and restaurants all in walkable distance

A super central place for many excursions, nice staff and only 5 minutes to the beach. The motel is no longer the newest but very clean. The only complaints are that there is no mirror over the sink and not a single chair in the room. I would come back at any time...

It was inexpensive. But... It's a pit. We had two rooms, a "6 person suite" (which was just a slightly large standard room with a sofa bed in it) and a "2 person queen bed room"...
None of the rooms had doormats! Sand was tracked everywhere! The rooms had hard floors and offered brooms, but there was no way to keep up with the sand that got everywhere. A simple doormat would have helped immensely just to put shoes on/off inside the room (it was raining a lot, the patio was soaking, couldn't do it outside).
The suite had nowhere to hang anything! There was one tiny towel bar that could hold one towel (for a room that was intended to accommodate 6 people!). Plus one small hook on the back of the bathroom door. They don't change out towels, so, with nowhere to hang them, they ended up covered in sand and wouldn't dry. There was no closet, it unfortunately rained while we were there, we had raincoats and no where to put them aside from on the floor (or beds if you didn't mind a wet bed). The balcony and porch were soaking wet from rain, so we couldn't use the railings or furniture outside to dry anything. The TV stand/dresser was warped, the top was peeling off, and one drawer was stuck.
The single queen bed room had an air conditioner unit that was so loud it shook the floor, walls, and all the furniture in the room, the sound physically hurt. Their "solution" was "you can pay more and we can move you to a room with a king bed". Oh, gee thanks. Your maintenance failure means we have to pay more??? No closet, but this room did have a drying rack on the wall, so several times more area to hang wet items in the 2-person room than the 6-person "suite".
The location was nice, easy walk to the beach (through dunes, with poison ivy along the trail - they might want to get on that). The lots did flood significantly in the rain.

Our daughter and family stayed there 4 nights this week. Both rooms were clean and free of bugs. Short walk to the ocean. Excellent choice for being close to everything. I would certainly consider staying there.
Rooms: Old but clean. Beds were comfortable.

Excellent customer service. Very friendly staff. We stayed in room 10 it was great. Bed was comfy and the room was nice and clean. Best 5 days ever!
Rooms: The room was very clean and cozy. Beds were very comfortable. The bigger fridge was great in the room we actually could fit stuff in it. Loved our 5 day stay here.

Staff was very unfriendly except for one male staff, once I got to the room it was filthy and smelled like pot, don't come here and expect to use the Wi-Fi either, when we were coming back the first night we saw a rat running across the sidewalk to the office door, the air conditioner used to cool the room has mold inside of it I'd say the only good thing about this Motel is the fact that it's inexpensive and a 5-minute walk from the beach. I would not recommend and I will definitely not be coming back to this establishment.

June 2024 ROACHES!!! Roaches in your room and wake up with them IN your bed!!! Buildings infested with roaches! Motel's design, location, and staff okay, but OWNER NEEDS TO HIRE EFFECTIVE PEST EXTERMINATING COMPANY, MAKE PROPER REPAIRS, USE CAULKING, REPLACE OLD/STAINED BEDS and FURNISHINGS, and OUTSIDE TRASH CANS NEED LIDS!!!
Rooms: Rooms size good, box springs old/stained and pillow cases were thin. No ventilation in bathrooms or kitchen area. Room had ROACHES.
