One of my favorite places in Asheville, and favorite bookshops ever!Firestorm isn’t just a bookstore - it’s an incredibly important part of our community and a truly special space. They have an amazingly wide and interesting collection of books, often titles that would be difficult to find in other stores, and it’s hard for me to go in and not leave with a stack of fascinating new reads. If they don’t have a book on hand, they’ll order it for you!In addition to the books, Firestorm has plenty of great gifts - I often go there to pick up small presents for friends, because I love their selection of stickers, zines, art prints, and buttons. But the most important part of Firestorm is the role that they take in Asheville’s community. They host amazing free community events (and have a meeting room anyone can book) and are seemingly always looking for ways to help support local nonprofits and collectives. Not only that, but they’re a worker-owned cooperative and an inspiring model for how to operate as a true non-hierarchical collective.I feel so lucky to have Firestorm in my town. If you’re visiting, definitely stop by. If you live in Asheville, consider supporting Firestorm with a recurring donation via their Patreon - you get a discount on books! And, if you haven’t been in a while, be sure to check out their new space - it’s gorgeous, and much bigger!

I never felt more at home and less at home at a bookstore. On the one hand, the book selection is truly amazing! They have a small bookcase (see photo below) dedicated to Palestinian liberation, a campaign that I'm active with in the triangle area. And such a great selection of anarchist, socialist, LGBTQ, women's rights and other left-leaning and revolutionary books, as well as a very cool children's section. It's a small store, but they have many books I haven't seen anywhere else.On the other hand, the masking policy is very saddening to me. Pre-pandemic many of us anti-pharma folks belonged to a counter-cultural group, either raw vegans like myself, hippies, spiritual folks, parents of autistic children, amish, orthodox jews, and evangelical christians. In other words, people on the left, right and apolitical. Then the pandemic hit, and in 2020 the most visible anti-vaxxers were Democrats, saying we shouldn't trust a vaccine being pushed for consumption so rapidly by Trump. But then Biden came into office and people switched and cemented their camps based on partisan affiliation and ideology, and many anarchist and other left-wing groups accepted the big pharma lies, including everything related to vaccines, masking and lockdowns. I lost my Mom to the covid vaccine, and other loved ones have suffered serious physical and mental health consequences due to the these covid policies.I will continue to shop at Firestorm on future visits to Asheville, unless they start demanding vaccine passports in a future pandemic, because it's worth it to me to slightly compromise my respiratory system for 30 minutes to find some great books.

Why should I have to wear mask in the store? I should not have gone in. Small selection, overly priced

Thought I'd support a local book shop before buying from a big box retailer, but if y'all are still ENFORCING face diapers in an open air environment in 2024, I'm gonna nope right out of there and go someplace where I won't be shamed for my perfectly safe public health practices. Go get another booster of you're still scared of the Vid.

Love browsing the books here, have participated in some events like packing banned books to be sent to FL, the workers are so sweet and super well informed. Only downside I could think of is that there is really no available parking.

Great books, great community events. Cultivating a culture of care by requiring masking in this ongoing pandemic. Love Firestorm <3

An interesting bookstore. You will find a wide variety of books from a diverse set of authors. Some of the books are the type you really won’t see in other bookstores, which is great for helping raise up the author’s voices. Unfortunately, however, it is extremely pricey. For an “anarchist” bookstore, they’re definitely focused on a capitalist business model. $3 stickers, $5 zines, and $20 trade paperbacks is hardly democratizing these items.

I recently ordered a box of books from these folks online. They were extremely kind & communicative throughout the process, & helped me far beyond what was required. I am deeply appreciative of this collective, their incredible collection of books, zines, & more, & the attentive care they put into meeting community where they're at. Thank you so much Firestorm !!
