I'm a Memphian returning to the area for 2 days. We chose to dine here based on a recommendation. We were given appetizers to try to make up for the wait time. I can't recall what it was, but I think it was the SPOP. I ordered the tandoori chicken as the main course. A complimentary dessert was given for the long delay on our order. Without the complimentary items, we really enjoyed the foods. They were absolutely delicious. If I lived near, I would travel to visit a few times a year. The restaurant location was new and the design was much different than I was used to seeing in a restaurant; I enjoyed looking at the designs and art. There is a wait list to get in so be prepared. We waited at the bar next door until we were called. Give it a try if you are in the area. Happy dining.

Okra fries were delicious; butter chicken plate was just so so, but I'm an Indian food snob. Just can't seem to top what I can find in London. I'd come back though, just to have a cocktail and the okra fries. The ambience was fun, and I'd try some of the other small plates. This time, I think I just picked the wrong main course. The service was too notch!!

Beautiful restaurant! The food and drinks were pretty good with the exception of the naan. It reminded me of the packaged naan you can get in the grocery store. Everything else was delicious.

Went here last week with a large group of friends. We were in line right when they open for the evening at 5 PM. Seated within 5-7 minutes of being there. Our server was very professional, patient and all you can hope that server can be. The ambiance was great as well. Had ordered various food. Really liked their Vada paav, fried Okras. They also serve Paani puri on Fridays and Saturdays upstairs and it was very delicious. Overall 4/5

what an amazing experience!! I was coming to town and this place was on the top of my list. I'm so glad I went! I am traveling solo, so I sat at the bar. People started lining up before they even opened! the food was excellent and the service was outstanding! shout out to Jamie, my bartender. She walked me through the highlights, and still I ended up ordering the wrong item. To my surprised delight, she put in an order for the item I really intended to order and it showed up! she was a delight!! I highly recommend this place. Food, 10/10, service 11/10!!!

From a tourist: this was Asheville's best in dining. From the food to the ambience to the service, this was a top notch experience. This is my second time at CP, first time at this location. There was still a wait and seemingly lots of empty tables even on a weekday so be prepared to put your name in and go for a walk. We split the SPDP, cheese uttapam, and butter chicken. Highly recommend everything, the cheese uttapam was insane - you need that. We are still talking about it. Loved that the butter chicken dish came with small bites of lots of little things - great for sharing and to try lots of stuff. We also got iced chai - which was amazing, never had chai as good as that! And a baby tiger - also delish, hard to not drink it all in one sip. Our server was also very nice and let us know what things to try and to add some spice to a few. Overall it was a great experience and still my favorite restaurant in Asheville. I do wish they started taking reservations!

Very good food and fast service. Good for fast and casual dine-in . We stopped by on our way back from the Smoky mountains.

Chai Pani will be on my Asheville hit list whenever I visit!! The ambiance alone is mesmerizing and so colorful it's hard to not want to sit in every seat. The food is just as beautiful as it is delicious, highly recommend the okra. Everything I had to eat and to drink was spectacular and unique. Service at the bar was attentive and also relaxed. I'll be back again and again!

Tl;dr: not worth the hype. The environment is super fun, but the food is honestly just OK. Not worth the long waitlist and surprisingly expensive prices for what it is. The butter chicken was tiny and very average, the uttapam was meh, and the okra fries were nothing to write home about. You could probably get better Indian food even in Asheville and the best thing were the drinks and the snack from the kitchen of watermelon sprinkled with spices. Service was painfully slow once seated.

Update, Sept 9, 2024: CP has moved into a very large and wonderfully festive new space - see included pics. Had the saag paneer thali, which featured multiple textures and a panoply of piquant flavors. Samples of daal and chana masala were included, and were perfect slathered over the basmati. Love the raita here - it's nicely seasoned and topped with light, crunchy boondi. Sadly, the parking situation still stinks. Service was outstanding - thanks, Finnegan! I've found a time slot that allows one to escape the crushing crowds and mind-numbing lines one typically encounters here, crowds and lines that will worsen exponentially with the autumn tourist blitzkrieg. Never mind what that time slot is...

We walked in with huge expectations after reading the many accolades from food critics and my buddy hyping this place up. Chai Pani is located in a cool part of town with a great mural across the street. We checked in with the hostess without reservations and the wait was only 20 minutes, not bad. We hit the bar upstairs for some drinks. Scored a spicy skinny margarita which was excellent and a cardamom old fashioned. The old fashioned had brown sugar added to it which made it a little too sweet for me. We tried the panipuri which is a deep-fried breaded hollow shell filled with a combination of potato, onion, and chickpea and a sweet sauce. It was ok but made a mess. Eat them whole. We were seated at the table which was small. This is one of those places that likes to pack couples in so you are 24" from the next couple and can hear everything they are talking about. When the waitstaff comes over to clear the table their ass is in your face. Nice touch. Our waiter was awesome, knowledgeable dude who made some recommendations. We started off with Naan and Aloo Tiki Chaat which was fantastic. Lots of great flavors. For the main course we had the Tandoori Chicken and the Sloppy Jai. The chicken was amazing! Lots of great flavors lots of food. The Sloppy Jai is spicy lamb with tomatoes, ginger and other spices. The buns were cooled perfectly. We were stuffed. Great food and great service. Overall it was a good meal I wouldn't put it where the NY Times did as one of America's favorite restaurants but hey it was still pretty damn good. Recommend giving it a shot.

As a party of 4 we ordered a wide variety of dishes including the KALE PAKORA CHAAT, MATCHSTICK OKRA FRIES, BAINGAN BHARTA, Chili Chicken and SUBADANA VADA TOTS. It was more than enough to share. The price as great to divide the bill in half with our other couple. The atmosphere of restaurant is so lively and it's beautifully decorated. We will be back soon!

The okra fries are to die for !!! Delicious food. Doesn't disappoint. Some of the best Indian food I have eaten and I worked at two different Indian restaurants with chefs from Pakistan & Indian with restaurants in London.

By far the best Indian food I've ever had. I can't wait to visit this place again I just wish they now open up their restaurant in NYC cos there is no place that's going to be a close match to Chai Pani
