At one time the practice began charging to use the portal to message one’s provider. The practice now charges for annual medication pre authorization letters. Obtaining an appointment with one’s provider is challenging and often involves leaving a voice message on a triage line that is shared by 4 or 5 other providers. There are too many gatekeepers here, they rudely interrupt and/or transfer you to the triage line without saying a word. While your usual provider may be top notch, in short, the business practices/front office patient experience here is far from user friendly. Time to change practices.

Receptionist was incredibly rude. I am a long term patient but will be looking for a new primary care physician

This office is very well-managed, and the care is best on-going I have received in my experience. Dr. Spivey is aces, clearly very smart about the care he administers, and always focused on what is best for his patient.

Providers are good folks. But good luck with their billing, especially if you are one of the thousands locally insured by Mission/HCA. They have found ways of essentially double billing for annual health screening visits if you have ANY underlying health condition. In my case, childhood asthma that occasionally flares - like every 3-7 years, or so. The doctor asked if I needed any Rx inhalers, and I said "no," to which he replied "I'll just send one over so pharmacy will have it, just in case." This 30 second exchange opened the door for them to bill not only for an annual physical, but also an "office visit," thus being able to charge me an extra co-pay separate from an annual physical appointment (which is theoretically covered 100%.) So they bill for something like $900, insurance pays a large chunk of it, and I get a bill for the difference. When you call to complain, they tell you "you signed a disclosure that extraneous conditions are separate...." So next year I will be wiser. I will schedule a visit to discuss my nearly non-existent asthma, then I will schedule a physical appointment, and if asthma is mentioned at the 2nd (physical) appointment, I will emphatically state that we are not discussing asthma, like "la, la, la, not listening." At least this way they will work for the double payment they receive. Mine is not an isolated case - same thing with my wife, and some of her colleagues. Aetna says they go through this repeatedly with this outfit. So buyer beware!

I'm very pleased with Carolina Internal Medicine. Receptionists are always friendly and my wait time is never too long. I can't say enough about Dr. Spivey. He has really brought my good health back. He has gone above and beyond what doctors have done for me in the past.

So grateful to finally have a primary care physician I have established routine care with. Dr. Spivey and the staff are wonderful and have been so helpful when I’ve gotten sick outside my normal annual visits. I really appreciated Dr. Spivey followed up after my COVID Telehealth visit with another physician in their practice and wanted me to come in for a follow up.

My doctor routinely spends 45 min- 1 hour on my visit with me. The nurses are great and I’ve never waited in the lobby for longer than 5-10 minutes.

Dr. David Reilly is great! He really takes his time to listen to your concerns, takes notes and is very thorough. It had been over 10 years since I had a physical and he really put me at ease. I highly recommend him and his nurses!

Waited over an hour to see doctor. My appointment was 9:45 AM . He didn’t have an emergency so I can only conclude they have lousy scheduling. Unacceptable

I have been seeing Cathy Haggart for years and she is the best primary care I have ever had. She is very detail oriented, spends time with you, cares vastly about your well being (internal health and mental health), and is just overall a beautiful person. I would recommend her to anyone needing primary care. This office is ran very well. Employees are very kind and I am in and out of the office very quickly. Anytime I have needed an appointment I have been able to get in the same week. Thank you for all of the hard work your office provides.

Dr. Weaver is brilliant. He helped me eliminate a serious side effect on a medication. He diagnosed a painful condition and treated it. He’s solid. Highly recommended.

I had the pleasure today to visit Carolina Internal Medicine. I moved from Miami, Florida to Asheville four months ago and needed a new primary physician and chose Nathan J. Hruska M.D. who was accepting new patients. He spent over an hour going over my medical history and ordering new labs, etc. He was very attentive and genuinely was interested in my concerns. I highly recommend Dr. Hruska and Carolina Internal Medicine.
