Horrible experience made worse by claim process. AVOID this company if you care about your belongings and integrity in the process. They left a mess of our house at loading, did $21K in damage while moving us less than 120 miles, and denied the entire claim multiple times for bogus reasons. With persistence, demanding insurance involvement, and ultimately suing them we were successful in recovering our damages cost. They are unethical and do a terrible job. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!

The most unprofessional moving company! Do not use them! I paid for a ferry and tractor trailer. They showed up with a ferry truck and no tractor trailer. They did not come to work! They showed up at 12-2 pm. What should have been one day was 3! They lost all the plugs and cables! The fire sticks are gone. All my furniture was not covered. They destroyed most of my decorator furniture. They split it to two loads instead of what I contracted for. The second load was crushed and damaged. They tried to charge me for the second load. I paid for professional packing and they literally threw things in boxes with no padding. They were unprofessional, disorganized, and rude! Do not use them!

Each person I talked to on the phone to get a quote was extremely rude, pushy, and not knowledgeable about costs. Moreover, the company sent several notifications to my phone each day about booking my move before giving me a quote. Do not recommend for the admin side alone.

Like some of the other reviews, the items were picked up with no problem. It was a completely different story when my items were delivered. My six bookcases were delivered in pieces. Literal pieces. Tables had broken legs. Two beautiful antique pieces were broken in half. I had 15 items destroyed during this process, some which cannot be replaced. Trying to place a claim was time-consuming and lengthy. I finally got a check for a few items but no where near what they were worth. They only paid based on weight. They gave me $30 on a $500 table. I can't get an answer on why the rest of the items weren't addressed. I would NOT use this company. I am out hundreds of dollars and some antiques that I loved and cannot be replaced. I don't understand a moving company taking such poor care of someone's things. Buyer beware.

We strongly suggest you be very careful about using Carey Moving & Storage. We contracted with their office in Spartanburg, SC to move our household goods from Spartanburg, SC to Lexington, SC. An agent came out to our house prior to them packing our goods and walked every inch of our house with us making notes on his ipad. We received an estimate that seemed good to us. When Carey came out to pack our goods they had to bring in extra employees because they said we had much more to pack than they thought. Based on them saying that obviously their estimate was wrong. When their truck arrived in Lexington, SC we were told we had to pay over 40% more than the estimate they had given us prior to them doing the packing. Based on their own comment that "we had much more than they thought" it became readily clear that they were making up for their bad estimate by charging us over 40% more than their estimate. They also told us that if we did not pay the full amount they would turn the truck around and return to their facility in Spartanburg. We had to pay the much higher amount in order to get our household goods. We spoke with Brian Carey several times but he refused to work with us. This business is grossly dishonest and should not be trusted. Read the other negative reviews on this site as well as on other review sites. In addition to the inflated price we had to pay, Carey Moving "lost" a 100lb antique coffee table of ours as well as a crib mattress. They looked in their lost and found area in their warehouse(why does a moving company need a lost and found area?? Each piece should have a numbered moving sticker on it that is trackable) but said they did not see these "lost "items. Our experience with these people was terrible. Do yourself a big favor and look elsewhere for a moving company!

This moving company removed my items from my house with no problem. When they placed it in storage they decided to take my weight bench, desk, and other items apart. They miss placed a lot of the hardware. This company failed to pay me for all stuff that was broke. I had a weight bench that is not fully functional, weights that are missing because they took the weights out of the crate that I placed them in. They kept my brand new container which cost me almost $50. My other work out piece of equipment is broke which they did not pay me anything. When furniture was delivered I saw my wooden desk laying on its side in the street and it was all scratched up, not the way that it was taken house. The settlement check did not cover what was destroyed by this company and person that they sent to my house to take pictures was horrible. I paid thousands on this move only to have my stuff destroyed due to a lack of respect for my items. Research your moving companies before you choose this company! Don’t do it! The fact that I am a Veteran and have had my stuff moved quite a few times with nothing taken apart and the parts end up missing shows that a little attention to detail goes a long way. Heavy boxes on top of my fragile crystal and glassware. Just terrible!

Saying that hiring this company to manage my long distance move was one of the worst decisions of my life would be an understatement. When they came to view my items to estimate a cost to move, she was fantastic. Even the ladies writing quotes were great. We hit a stumbling block at the movers. These guys took apart everything that would come apart (and some that didn’t, but they made them anyways). They were late every day and left early every day. The final day of packing the guy came in the living room where pictures were hung on the walls, rugs were on the floors, furniture was sitting there and asked if that was everything. I just looked around and asked him to tell me.He tried to get me to leave stuff behind. He did leave stuff behind. The back of my vehicle was full of stuff that they left behind. Also left behind was snack papers, drink cans, and bottles from their packers. Also left behind was their work items like straps. My furniture moved 500 miles away and my husband took delivery. He said things were piled on top of everything. A push mover was sitting on top of our leather furniture. Several things were dented and ripped. However, I never said anything. It really wasn’t that big of a deal, things happen. As he started going through our belongings he found several big items that were damaged during the move. We decided too much stuff was ending up damaged and to make a claim. We bought the insurance. We’d be ok, right? No.Our washing machine was completely destroyed during the move. Even though they paid a third party to come in and prepare it for shipment. Once he hooked it up in the basement it would dump water into the floor because hoses up underneath and up inside the washer were busted. We replaced the washer one day after delivery. We didn’t keep the old washer. Our claim for the washer was denied. We didn’t keep it. That’s on us. Our fault. We learned our lesson. We did claim some items and turned in pictures of damage to said items, and was paid. Not all of it full asking replacement value. However, anything that was missing was not paid. They looked in their warehouse and didn’t find it. Done deal. We didn’t indicate missing items when the movers were leaving. Please show me the person who can look at over 100 moving boxes and know what’s missing before the driver leaves. What’s real life is the driver is grabbing you and telling you to sign these papers while the other movers are putting boxes in your garage. As soon as that last box hits the ground, he’s shutting the doors, getting in the truck, and getting the heck out of dodge. All the while yelling you have X many months to file claims while getting in and shutting the door. Bye!!Our contract said we had 9 months to submit damage and/or missing items. We fulfilled our part. I asked for replacement value for 3 missing pieces of wall art. Denied. No discussion, no anything. “You can’t prove it wasn’t delivered” and you can’t prove that it was ma’am.I was completely honest in my claims. There are probably twice as many things that are bumped, scratched, ripped that I labeled not worth the hassle, that I could live with it. The few things we did claim I got maybe 1/5 of what we asked for. Please don’t use these folks. And if you do, pay attention to all the warnings and bad reviews. Make them stay until you unpack all your boxes. That seems to be the only way they’ll pay for your damage.Sadly, this will be just one more bad review of many. Thanks for reading this.

AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS.I paid Carey Moving & Storage to pack and move my belongings from Asheville to Raleigh, NC. I signed the agreement before the move in which they said they would repair or replace damaged items. (A moving company I used previously had a similar agreement which they stood behind and I was very pleased with their services. I thought Carey would do the same. I was wrong.) The moving crew was careless and didn't even wrap fragile items such as dishes, instead claiming they were "packed by owner." I sure didn't pack them; they were sitting in a box in my basement, not individually packed at all. I had been told by the woman who gave me the estimate that they'd be wrapped with dish pack. They were not. They were one of a kind. When I reported a broken bowl on my claim form, I was told that because the moving guys marked it as "packed by owner", they would not reimburse me. Anyone who's used a moving company previously knows what a rushed process it is. The guy in charge of the moving crew encouraged me to sign all the forms, saying it's just acknowledging that everything is on the truck. I wasn't given the opportunity to individually inspect that every item they had on their list was correctly accounted for. That just doesn't happen in a move. That's just one example of the terrible service.Every item of value in my house was damaged in the move, which included a large fireproof safe, an upholstered couch, a dresser, bed frame, treadmill, dumbbell set and weight rack to mention a few. The amount of money Carey Moving sent as reimbursement for the damage was offensive and not even close to the amount of money it would take to repair or replace any of these items. The move also took a whole day longer than projected because the movers put my belongings on a truck that was too small to begin with, which I predicted the moment I saw it, even though I'm not a professional mover. They loaded what they could then had to wait on a bigger truck, move everything over from the smaller truck to the bigger truck, then they had to load the rest of my belongings. It significantly impacted my moving week and the limited amount of time I had available to get it done.I thought hiring a professional moving company would get my belongings to my new home safer than I could do it myself. I was so wrong. I care about my belongings and would have gotten them here safely and without damage. Carey DOES NOT CARRY SAFELY. What false advertisement.CONSUMER BEWARE.

This is by far the absolute best company to help you with your move. They do everything for you! They will come pack up all your things VERY neat, safe, and labeled. They will unload everything for you and even put furniture back together for you! And they do it all so quickly and professionally!! Justin is amazing & does it all! Including making sure everything is labeled, in the correct boxes, and before a box can leave the house he writes it down so they know where everything is. Such an organized and great system!! 100% recommend this team, next time I move I will definitely be using Carey Moving again!! Thank you all, especially Justin!!!

READ THIS BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH CAREY MOVING & STORAGE/ALLIED VAN LINES. Carey Moving & Storage/Allied Van Lines has been the worst moving company we have ever hired! The cost of our move from NC to FL was $5,119.41 which included additional liability insurance that we purchased in the event our furniture was lost, damaged or stolen. During the move our expensive, quality wood bookcases were badly damaged. Their settlement offer for the damaged furniture was $925.00, not nearly enough. Their motto, "Carey carries carefully", more appropriately should be, Carey carries carelessly. Additionally, and worse yet, our treasured artwork was lost, two of which are irreplaceable oil paintings. When the company was made aware of our missing artwork their response was cold and detached and their apology insincere and meaningless. Communication regarding this matter has been virtually non-existent. I was told to file a complaint with the company. Valuable time lapsed during the complaint process. There was no real initiative by this company to try to secure and return our missing art to us. Initially, I was informed by Joyce at Carey Moving & Storage, that the driver, John Karl, misdelivered our paintings to the wrong address and that our paintings were going to be located and returned to us. When we requested compensation for the lost art in the event the artwork was not returned to us they have recanted that they ever advised us that the artwork was located. This company is disreputable and dishonest. Their refusal to compensate us for the lost artwork was based on my signing the inventory sheets on delivery day. I explained to the claims department and others at Carey Moving & Storage, that the driver, John Karl, instructed me to sign the sheets even though I had expressed concern that some of our furniture was damaged in transport and that I couldn't verify that we had received all our belongings. The driver, John Karl, misled me with his reassurance that by me signing the paperwork upon delivery that it would in no way impact any future claim for damaged or lost goods. I was ill advised by this company and I am now without my treasured art and no compensation for it even after paying for liability insurance. This company has unscrupulous, unethical business practices and takes advantage of its customers during a stressful, chaotic time preying on its customers' vulnerability. Their philosophy of caring for your belongings like their own is laughable. A true litmus test of how a company values its customers can be seen in how they handle customer complaints. This company rates an "F"! This company has a current back log of complaints. Read the reviews about this company on other sites ie Yelp, BBB, etc and you will find that there are many, many other very dissatisfied customers as well. If you value your furniture and belongings, do yourself an enormous favor and choose a different moving company to do business with.

Their settlement offer was $925.00, not nearly enough. Carey Moving & Storage does not carry carefully! Worst yet, our treasured art (3 paintings total) is missing and Carey/Allied refuses to compensate us for the lost art despite us having purchased additional liability insurance to protect us in such an event. I filed a complaint, called the place of business many times and went through all the proper channels to pressure Carey Moving & Storage to try to locate the missing art. Little to nothing has been done to return our paintings to us. Their response to my complaint has been sluggish, cold and detached and their apology insincere and meaningless. Communication with this company is poor to non-existent. Initially, I was informed by Joyce and others, with Carey Moving and Storage, that the driver John Karl mis-delivered our paintings to the wrong address and that the paintings were going to be secured and returned to us.
