This is probably the straw that has broken the camels back with Food Lion in Albemarle on Hwy24. Went in there tonight to buy our groceries for this week. We must have gotten in the wrong line at the checkout. Wanda acted like she did not want to ring up a buggy full of groceries. She was not very friendly or helpful tonight. She put most of our groceries in blue cold bags and had cold items mixed with other items. Not only was the cashier not in the mood to work, two cans of green beans we picked up were out of date by year, but the date on the cans was Oct. 2023, they exchanged them when I took them back tonight. The person at the customer service counter acted like there was no real problem, when I went to get the replacement cans the first two I got off the shelf also have the same expiration date as the ones I was return. This tells me their not checking their inventory when they stock the shelves. My wife says they find expiration dates past due on several different occasions when shopping this store. We will more than likely start using Harris Teeter in the future for our groceries or drive to Publix in Concord and forget about Food Line since the service is getting worse and the inventory is not maintained like it should. Makes also question the meat we purchased from the meat market, is it really in date, or are they making that up on the labels since the putting out of date can goods on the shelves along with other items.

One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had, anywhere. I was at self checkout minding my own business, which included me being on a personal call (and my phone to my ear so it was obvious as opposed to headphones). I rang up an item and it came back more than on the shelf. I went back to the shelf to take a photo of the price - for my own reference to make sure when I put my MVP card in it rang up correctly. And before I could finish checking out, while I was still on my call minding my own business, the woman manning the self checkout section yelled at me across registers “before you come show me a photo, put your MVP number in”. Which my response was “I don’t have a question”. I did not approach her. I did not look at her. I did not acknowledge her. I was on my call, handling everything myself. And to be yelled at like she did in front of a full self checkout area was beyond uncalled for. I tried to leave and refrain from sharing that experience with someone of management, but I just couldn’t. That was just beyond unnecessary. I spoke with 2 other employees. One, which I was told was a more senior employee, and while he and I were talking, the self checkout woman was speaking with the grocery manager - both of which were looking back at me during their conversation. Therefore, I went to that grocery manager to explain the situation, expressed that I can handle my own so it’s not me that needs an empty apology, but I would hate for someone else to be treated that way. All followed with the question of “is this how Food Lion wants their customers that are not engaging with their employees and minding their own business to be treated?” He shared with me that yes that self checkout employee does come off harsh, but probably didn’t mean anything by it, and how those situations happen about 20 times a day. So my next question/internal thought.. if this happens 20 times a day, is there not a problem? Clearly it’s known, and nothing is going to happen or come of this. All in all to say I did not speak to her, approach her, show her any photo, nothing. I just don’t want another customer to be minding their own and get yelled at by an employee for no reason. If you do, maybe try the registers with a cashier to avoid this happening to you.

The store layout is not designed in a way to make you buy more. The lay has not change when you know what isle your products is on the experience a more productive shopping experience.

They treat customers like trash, witnessed a cashier patronizing a lady about drinks she had under her cart, she told the young man she scanned them five different times, but he still didn’t believe her. After she left, I asked him why he did that. He said we have to do all of our food stamps paying customers like that. I’ve never seen them do that to anybody else. Still to this day. I know she was mortified
