Quiet and homey hotel right in the middle of downtown St. John's. We loved looking at the old structure and woodwork you can see throughout it. The photos on the walls were nice as it let you see what it used to look like as a warehouse. It's only a few minutes walk from lots of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, stores, and tourist locations. Some parts are dated and could use an update but for the price overall we are happy. I won't be comparing this to a 4 or 5 star conglomerate owned hotel. Our room was very clean compared to other hotels we have stayed in. Free continental breakfast of juice, muffins, yogurts, cereal bars, fruit, coffee, tea, and instant oatmeal was lovely. Typical continental breakfast so I don't know what other reviewers thought it was supposed to be. Rooms are a bit dim during the day and dark at night as the windows are small and there no ceiling lights (at least on the 3rd floor) due to them having open acess to the beutiful wooden timber. We just turned on the supplied floor and table lamps and it was perfectly fine to see. Again we picked this for the look not lighting.Harbour view rooms aren't really views of the harbour anymore since a large restaurant was built across the street but we didn't come just to stand in our room and look out a window at the water.Staff was very nice and friendly. I loved hearing all their accents.Overall, an overly 3 star hotel. We didn't have our child with us but I can see that there wouldn't be much for a child to do in this hotel. But one be outside exploring. Free customer parking on their lot was also a huge plus given the hard to find and pricey parking downtown.Rooms: Kings room was plenty big for 2 people. 1-3 floor has elevator and stair access. 4th floor requires a set of stairs to walk up. I really enjoyed the towel warmer in the room and the electric fireplace. We tried using the Alexa that came in the room with the instructions to turn on the fireplace but it didn't work. A few minutes of us sleuthing and we realized someone had manually turned off the switch on the fireplace. Flicked it back on and it worked great.

The room was lovely and the location was great. Unfortunately the staff don't have a clue, they'll tell you one thing then another staff will tell you something completely different. We were charged an additional $200 for services we were told were included within our room's fee and management is impossible to contact. Definitely would not recommend staying here, I know we won't be returning.

This is not a fancy, pristine hotel. It is clean, affordable, friendly, comfortable, beautiful with historical details and I recommend it to everyone. Walking distance to night life and downtown shops.

It's right downtown. Parking provided. The staff are very nice and helpful. The rooms are very clean and modern while somehow maintaining a historical feel. Well worth a stay if you're looking to stay in downtown St. John's.

One word: MICE. We saw them on the third floor, in the lobby, and in the courtyard. Thankfully we never saw them in our room. We were too traumatized to have a good night’s sleep. This hotel is waaay too expensive to have mice running their hallways.

Comfortable hotel, nice staff and great location. The mice add authenticity to sea port feeling. Mice on the third floor, mice in the lobby and mice in the courtyard. September 27-29, 2023.

The staff at the Murray are very friendly and professional. The building and interior is old world charming, a bit dated, but well maintained. They could maybe spruce up the colors at some point as every surface is a shade of brown. The grab and go breakfast was appreciated (drinks, fruit, muffins, oatmeal, breakfast snacks). The shower in our king suite was enormous, and the bed was comfortable. Because of the nature of the building and the challenges of modernizing, our room had an unfortunately placed pillar slightly blocking the tv, but we only turned it on a couple times to unwind at bedtime. The cleaning staff are excellent. My confusion is surrounding what the cleaning fee is booking thru airbnb. Does that mean that there is no need to tip the cleaners with cash, as they will be receiving this? Some clarity is needed, so we tipped anyway. The outer courtyard is quite nice, and you're literally a staircase away from Water Street, George, and Duckworth. The Murray is also a decent distance away from pubs on these streets as to not disturb your sleep. Maybe request a room facing the harbour if you want to ensure quiet.A friendly suggestion that the Murray move their smoking area away from the hotel entrance. The standard is usually 5 meters.Overall, we couldn't beat the price for a downtown harbour-side hotel in late summer (mid-August) in a king suite, booked very last minute when our original airbnb cancelled on us 11 days before flying out.

Great location close to George St and the shops and restaurants. Service was good. When requested could only get a half hour later checkout. Hotel is showing its age with questionable elevator rides - sounds like it's breaking down. Rooms are very dark and just don't feel clean. Parking is included which helps a lot downtown. Nice enough continental breakfast but go earlier as they do run out of some things. Not sure if I would stay here again all things considered.

The Murray Premises Hotel is in the perfect location! The rooms are cool with large wooden pillars and comfortable beds! If you are looking for a fair priced boutique hotel in the heart of St John’s stay here!

Hotel has a good location right by the waterfront, near all the restaurants. Rooms are decent and depending your selection may have a nice seating area, tub with jets and nice glass wall shower. No microwave in rooms or in food area.Morning breakfast is a “grab and go” (muffins, yogurt, juice and hot beverages) with no trays to bring items back to rooms.Walkability: Easily able to walk to the major restaurant streets in St John’s!

Location couldn’t be better. I’m reading the other reviews maybe we had an upgraded room because it was very nice with a king size comfy bed. Fabulous shower with towel warmer and mood fireplace. Very VERY friendly front desk staff.

Dated hotel, spotted a shrew on the corridor. The continental breakfast was a variety of muffins fruit and yoghurt. Not exactly what you would expect. Nothing wrong with the muffins... Spacious king size bed.
