“We were driving from MA to PA. Although we’d smelled gasoline inside the car before, it had dissipated. I’d meant to have it checked out before the trip but forgot to. But on this day the smell was terrible and scary and did not dissipate. We were so lucky to find ourselves near Yonkers and the Subaru dealership. The people there were immediately responsive, took charge and we were back on the road in a little over an hour!
They were however mystified about the problem. They didn’t find one. But MAYBE the rodents they finally discovered had found their way into the back seat had possibly chewed something that let in the smell. They fully cleaned up the mess and determined the car was safe to drive. So we drove on. The smell remained but much more faintly.
PS written three days later: we drove the car for three hours on Jan 18 and there was NO SMELL!!!
