A peaceful Tibetan Buddhist monastery at the top of a mountain. Follow the winding road up the mountain and you'll know that you've arrived when you see the colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. This beautiful monastery welcomes everyone of all faiths and backgrounds - just remember to take off your shoes before you enter the shrine. If you're visiting Woodstock, this monastery is not to be missed. The bookstore (Namse Bangdzo) offers a wide selection of Buddhist books, fine Tibetan Buddhist art (statues and thangkas), and Dharma practice materials. Like other reviewers have said, this monastery is not designed as a tourist destination, but a functioning monastery and serves as the North American seat of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Karma Kagyu lineage. Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) offers private retreats for those who wish deepen their understanding and m find peace through Tibetan Buddhist teachings. You can make a donation at write a dedication on a card which is taped to a lamp (at the time of this writing, the donation for a 3-day lamp starts at $12). It's a neat experience walking through the golden Buddha shrine and reading other people's lamps.

We initially just came for mountain climbing, but unexpectedly discovered a Lama monastery on the top of the mountain. The atmosphere was solemn and remarkable. Both the Lamas and the staff were kind and inviting, they even invited us to join them for free lunch. It was a truly unique experience, highly recommended!

Went to Woodstock for a day getaway and came up hopeful that it would be open but it wasn’t but that’s ok, just the look of the building was great to look upon. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to go by again in the future when it is open.

Absolutely amazing selection of books, CDs, DVDs, and Buddhist supplies for your walls and shrine. But you don't need to be a Buddhist to shop here. Still, if you're new to Buddhism and wanted to know where to start, ask Peter and he will skillfully recommend books suitable for any beginner. And during the Covid-19 pandemic, Peter has just been amazing! If you're in need of something from the store and live in or are close to Woodstock, Peter will safely package the item(s) for pickup. Besides the incredible selection and great prices, is there anything else? Yes. When the bookstore reopens to the public, don't forget to visit their downstairs space. I had visited the bookstore many times before finally visiting their downstairs space. The downstairs space has thangkas (Tibetan paintings) and statues. Their selection is really quite incredible. there's something for any budget. Thank you Peter for all of your help!
