Buyer beware, under no circumstances use their services unless you're one of their VIP clients like Stephen Colbert or Jessica Parker. Basically, they're just a factory meaning get it in and get it out. Even after introducing them to a well respected interior designer, their work was mediocre at best. They're all talk and no show. What a disappointment... Should have just bought a new chair, it would have been cheaper.

This business does not respect the authenticity of the furniture it repairs. They removed parts of my Eames lounge chair and put it back together with significantly worse parts. The only reason I can imagine they did this was to re-sell the authentic parts to other customers. When asked for an explanation for why the parts were swapped out, they claimed ignorance. On another job, they simply did not do the tasks that I paid them to restore the chair. Their prices are a bit high, which I am okay with, but the work was substandard and I could have done better work myself at home (and next time I will just do it at home). You may have read the NYT article from 2003 that mentions that they are the best place in the city to get this sort of work done but there are a lot of better furniture restorers these days. If you value your furniture and its authenticity, I would avoid this company at all costs.

This company may have done good work in the past but they are likely to ruin your valuable furniture. I had an Eames chair rehabilitated by them but they actually removed the authentic and fully intact polyurethane foam and batting (that I had previously cleaned) and replaced it with inferior cushions. They may have sold it or used it in another job but the replacement cost for authentic Eames lounge chair foam interiors can be upwards of $1,000 dollars. For the other chair that they were supposed to clean and polish, they simply did not do the work and yet charged me for it. When asked for compensation, they did not follow through. You may have read the article in the New York Times from 2003 that extols their virtues but I think it is under new management and the quality of the work is seriously lacking. They are no longer the only show in town so I would send my furniture to Hume on the west coast or one of the more skilled shops around NYC.

Caveat emptor. I can't speak to their upholstery and restoration work, but they're the wrong place to go to replace broken shock mounts on a vintage Eames lounge chair. For $500, they replaced my originals, which had lasted 35 years, and when the replacements failed within six months, Sol, the original owner, (a lovely man) apologized profusely and eagerly redid the job at no additional expense. Alas, that repair also failed within a year, but when I returned to the shop, Sol had retired, and I had to deal with Joe, who was unpleasant, unapologetic, and unreasonable. When I explained what had happened, he showed no remorse and took no responsibility whatsoever for their shoddy workmanship. He merely offered to redo the repair if I paid him an additional $500, and when I asked him why he didn't stand behind his work and why I should pay him twice for a repair that had already failed twice, and with no indication or guarantee that it wouldn't again, he had no response. I walked out. The good news is that I found a wonderful shop in New Jersey called Olek Restoration that specializes in Eames,Peter, the proprietor, looked at the chair, looked at me, shook his head, and said he was surprised the repair had lasted as long as it did. He then told me they'd developed an improved shock mount that they guarantee for 15 years, but that it would probably last longer. I hope he's right.

Prestige built a custom analytic couch for me that is splendid. They also reupholstered two chairs for me that came out beautifully. I will return for all of my custom furniture and upholstery needs. I cannot recommend them highly enough - reliable, high quality work from a family-owned business.

They custom made a nice couch for me, but were almost 3 months late delivering and now 4 years later a welded steel leg broke and they are no help trying to get me a replacement. They don't remember where it came from and have no interest helping. I am in this industry and their work is nice, but their customer service is majorly lacking. I would not recommend them to a client or friend.

This shop is rightfully famous for its skills with complex midcentury and other designer jobs. I took in a early-model Saarinen Womb chair that I was essentially gifted in pieces (torn upholstery, original foam turned to dust, etc.) and two Executive armchairs. All of the items were total redos of foam and fabric and they were able to get them back into mint condition. They provided price estimates, fabric considerations/requirements, and set clear delivery expectations. The only work they wouldn't take on was repairing a broken metal leg but they mentioned that if we had to acquire a new base from the manufacturer, they would do everything in their power to help get it mounted properly (apparently things don't always line up). I asked a number of other NYC upholsters for estimates and they were all over the map and none of them came as highly recommended as Sol. For work as complex as these taut convex & concave curves and delicate proportions, I thought it was very fairly priced for the quality.

Prestige Furniture & Design provided wonderful service when reupholstering a chair for me. They provided an excellent fabric recommendation and had the chair reupholstered promptly. Jeremy was especially great to work with! Highly recommend.
