Came here as part of the Thurman Maple Days weekend. I will say upfront my attitude was a bit sour on the place because our car got stuck in a ditch while parking here. Apparently, they have steep ditches but they fill in with snow and when they sand the roads the ditches all but disappear. The car behind me got stuck too. Luckily, it wasn't too severe. But with no phone service, AAA is useless. Thankfully, the Lumber Mill had a working phone. That being said, inside we found several craft vendors including a woman making paper beads, a soap/lotion maker, a paper card maker, a candle maker, and a metal forge worker. We made a custom molded candle together, which was fun, and also put together a bracelet. The staff people were very friendly... perhaps because they took pity on the plight of our car. I can't say I would drive an hour from our house just to visit here, but if you are in the area (or perhaps stuck in a ditch and can't leave) then this is a fun place to explore for a little while.

WONDERFUL place!! We took three large logs up to be made into lumber. We also had a blast looking at the amazing barn that is under construction. We very much look forward to our return trip to pick up the lumber when it's done! UPDATE! Gary sawed our three huge logs into lumber! It was fascinating to watch. He is incredibly skilled. There was only a small trailer full of scrap and about 600 board feet of beautiful red oak boards! It's cool that he was as excited about the wood as we were - it was a 200 year old tree from Warrensburg that came down in a storm last summer. The barn is coming along very well and is a work of art!

Simply put: This is a small and AMAZING shop that is wholly worth the visit if you're in the Adirondacks. It's difficult to sum up exactly what this place is like, but suffice to say that "Martin's Lumber" may just be the most humble name for it. More complexly put: The two owners, Gary and Wini are woodworkers, jewelry makers, metal fabricators, stained glass artists, and they also dabble in light masonry. In essence, they're ARTISANS, who treat all materials with the highest regard, and they make BEAUTIFUL work, no mater the medium. Most of their products are sourced from their property and the surrounding area, and they take great care and pride in their work. You can get custom made pieces, or purchase raw materials to build your own at home. Lastly if you're looking for friendly folks that love to talk about their craft and help get your own projects off the ground, this is the place to go. Take a beautiful drive past the blue line and find your way to their shop!
