I went to the open house event and let me say idk what her name was but she was rude! I came in to look at the dogs cuz I'm interested in adopting from them, there's a couple of dogs I was interested in from seeing them on the website so I wanted to see them in person. And yes they were cute like they are on the website. But I feel bad for these pups being in those cages must suck. I really wanted to adopt a dog to spoil but I just really wasn't into that girl's attitude so I left like 5 minutes of being in there. So I've changed my mind from looking to adopt and I'm glad I did, after I left I started reading the reviews and some of them are not good. Apparently they adopt out sick dogs lie about them being healthy and they're rude ect, Just read them yourself. I'm not Looking to potentially adopt a sickly dog.

Nice people but...they give people sick animals you think your getting yourself a nice healthy kitten or puppy but no! my cousin recently adopted a puppy from here and let's say Their wallet isn't happy right now. The puppy seemed healthy but less than 48 hours later he stopped eating and was throwing up and had bad diarrhea he was taken to the vet and I had to help them pay the vet bills since they couldn't afford it. They was thinking about bringing the puppy back, but since we spent a lot of money on him at the vet office and the medications he needed they changed their minds. Other people had similar experience with them as well. So adopt at your own risk!

Disgusting! I don't recommend adopting from this place they give people sickly pets which cost hundreds even thousands in vet bills!!! It's even rumored they steal pets I honestly would believe it! So if you decide to adopt from them make sure you have hundreds/ thousands of dollars saved for vet bills!! and also consider you maybe adopting someone else's pet. It's honestly cheaper and easier to buy a healthy puppy from a breeder!!

This place needs to clean up their act or shut down because I’ve heard of MULTIPLE pets that have been adopted that are actually sick and owners are having to spend hundreds of dollars at the vet the day after adopting because these animals are not okay and should not be cleared in these conditions. Plus they won’t even cover the vet bill which is absolutely insane. If you plan on adopting from them, I wouldn’t, but if you do please question everything. Especially if the pet recently received antibiotics from them.

I do not recommend this place! They put someone's pet dog up for adoption and adopted out to someone else! If that isn't messed up then idk what is!!!

What a treasure trove of awesomeness, run by thee coolest, nicest people, for the sweetest of causes. Incredible selection, and everything is well organized. I still can't believe I was just in a thrift store with guinea pigs, and got a rain jacket & hoodie for the dog, and birthday cards to send to friends! What a special place that we are so lucky to have ?

9/6/2023-This is an edit to respond to the director’s response. First off for you to say that the volunteer that I interacted with wasn’t rude is kind of funny considering your response was SUPER RUDE!!! They are following your lead. If you actually read my original review you would’ve seen that “I came upon this adoption event” meaning that I came into the store and seen that it was going on so obviously I would not have known your adoption fees ahead of time. Secondly, I have four dogs of which I can afford so for you to make a statement about that is disrespectful. I was asking for an elderly friend of mine who lives alone, and is on a fixed income, but wanted the companionship of a dog, so before you reply with judgment and attitude, you should know the situation ahead of time. Thanks for just reconfirming that I would never use your rescue or recommend you!I came upon their adoption event at Petco yesterday. I simply asked what their adoption fee was. $400 I was told. I asked if they had any programs or knew of any programs where the fee was lower for someone who wanted the companionship of a dog but was on a lower income. Instantly I got an attitude with a rude “NO” and was told you would spend $400-$500 just to get a dog spayed. Well I said back to her “That’s funny cause I just paid $200 for my dog to get spayed”. Now I see all these negative reviews. Glad I never dealt with them! FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVERYTHING!!! BTW dutchess County SPCA is doing zero dollar adoption fees right now!

CARE is a wonderful shelter focused on saving dogs and helping them get homes. I adopted two of my dogs from there and the workers and volunteers are amazing. Reasonable pricing for dogs and focused on the dogs well-being over profit. Highly recommend adopting from CARE.

CARE of DC is the absolute best rescue, if you’re looking to add a new furry friend to your family. I adopted my dog as A senior a little more than a year ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. The adoption process was easy and all the staff and volunteers truly have such COMPASSION to each and every animal in their care. They go above and beyond for the animals, and their adopters!Highly recommend!

Please, please be warned! Compassion gave me a sick pup to foster. They told me that he had Kennel cough, but he became dreadfully sick the first day I had him within hours. They gave me meds for him, but they weren’t prescribed by the doctor they had on the prescription because I spoke to the doc and she never saw the dog. I reached out to them to tell the dog was sick, and they told me to take him to the pet emergency the night I fostered him, and there would not be any charge. When I got there, the doctor demanded I pay her because I brought him in as an emergency, and I told them that CARE agreed to pay the bill since I was fostering. The next day, they refused to pay the bill. I found out that the dog I was fostering was from a Manhatten shelter where all the animals are dreadfully sick with Pneumonia!! The doctor at the emergency facility informed me the night I brought the dog in. The next day, they wouldn’t give me an update on the pup’s condition when I called , but instead, told me I was untrustworthy for taking the dog in to the hospital. They told me that they were refusing to ever deal with me again. I dont know what I ever did wrong, but all I know, is that that beautiful little creature would have never made it through the night. He wouldn’t eat, drink, and struggled so hard to just take a breath. I know I saved his life. These people at Compassionate only want your money! Oh and just so you also know, they kept the very sick animals in the same room with the well ones and the ones that were being bordered and groomed so they were all probably infected. Stay away from this place! They have absolutely no compassion for the animals there, and do not care how sick they are. They are just worried about making money.
