Tried to adopt but nobody knew what was going on, didn't call us back to let us know if we were allowed to see the dogs, The people there were liars. But I rated this 2 stars because they did actually listen to my father's story to why were adopting and what we were looking for and humane societies always have a good word from me but this place is just impossible.

This place is not fair to people. They give dogs that’s cost a lot that someone might have give to them due to their living situation like the boxer puppies to their friends or family of the people that works there and the people that try to adopt and met all the requirements don’t get them

My cane Corso decided to slip her collar & take a stroll and ended up here for a few days until I was able to get her released through the town, registered, and get her rabies shot. This place to my surprise handled EVERYTHING for me, all I had to do was go pay. this place was absolutely AMAZING. They treated my baby with so much love and I’m so grateful for them for keeping her safe/fed/sheltered while I got the funds and transportation together to get her home. Thank you Walden Humane Society keep doing God’s work ❤️

I did not feel welcomed there. I recently visited after filling out an application. I am an adult living with my parents. My mother also filled out an application because we were looking to adopt together. They are open until 5. I showed up at 4. I understand places like this are short staffed and I showed up an hour before closing, but I waited 15 minutes before anyone even saw that I had arrived. I came to ask some questions about a specific dog. Most staff were friendly but one woman in particular was very rude. People were putting animals away. Their hours online should be listed to 4 if they do not want visitors after 4.She made it clear that they closed in an hour and started interrogating me. I repeated information that was in my application and she said that my mother needed to be there because she is the home owner and needs to give consent. This was frustrating because my mother filled out the application. That should have been enough for consent. I was then told every member of the house would need to have a visit with the dog in addition to every animal already living in my home.I understand shelters want the best for their animals but this place made it very difficult to adopt. On top of that, the woman was so unwelcoming and treated me like I was stupid and not fit to adopt. So many animals need to be adopted and this is not right. This is unfortunately not the only place where I was questioned harshly from the beginning. I have had pets for 20 years and they have always been happy and healthy. I am just trying to give animals a loving home and some places seem to think that animals are better off in a shelter than in my home.I ended up at a small rescue in Pawling that pre-approved mine and my mother's application within 2 days, answered all of our questions quickly online, and were very friendly. I went alone to meet my new puppy and took him home that day. The staff there were friendly and cared so much for the animals. Will never visit Walden Humane Society for pets in the future. There are better places out there.

I’ve had Ruby for a little over a year now. She’s literally the best thing to ever happen to me. Thanks for that.

All of our adoptions but one took place at the Walden Human society. The shelter is decently run and the volunteers do there best to take care of and tend to each dog/cat. We adopted 6 cats from Walden but they were located in PetSmart of Middletown. The process there was easy and seamless and we have nothing but good reviews for that process with the exception that sometimes they don't have volunteers during the times that they list and my wife and I wait around for an hour or so for someone to show up... The Walden shelter was difficult as well to get a hold of people or adopt a dog. The had a manager I believe Jessica or Jennifer and I could be wrong completely but she no longer works there. She tried to adopt out a dog to us that was "aggressive" and a "fear biter" and the dog needed to be worked with and trained before given her to a home with kittens. When we tried to explain this after our initial visit it became hard to adopt a different dog. Once we were able to agree to fostering a different dog, they shelter forgot we had the dog. It took almost a month to get a hold of them and get the necessary paperwork in the dog. We are happy with our fur baby and grateful we saved him from that shelter as they forgot about him after making us seem like bad adopters when we wouldn't home a dog they were trying to push off on us and growled and nipped at us in our visit.

Horrible experience. My fiancé and I put in an application on their website for adoption of a cat. We waited 5 days got told we're good to go for adoption and approved and then went to the shelter to pick up our cat we wanted to take home. That's when Cindy, who was not friendly with us tells us that they never actually finished our application that we can leave and come back if we want. It's one thing that They already miss lead us and told us that we were approved so we drove out 40 minutes to the shelter to get a cat just to get there and be told rudely that we can come back when they finish the application process for us. The red head in the room with the cats was actually a sweetheart but Cindy just seems unapproachable.

I don't want to give any stars this place should be shut down. I went there and dogs are out in the heat. I'm afraid of big dolls and pit bulls. They were whining crying and skinny. How they have them out on a hot day is unbelievable I was disgusted. I went to the pet shop bought dog food and donated to them. Animal control has to do something

I went there with my daughter and begged her to leave. I've never seen so many dogs underweight. Pit bulls who I'm very nervous to be around crying and jumping up on the fences to be patted or most likely to be fed. It was the saddest sight. It was over 90 degrees out and the had no water out. I went to the pet store and got dog food to donate to them. I hope it fed those poor animals who left me heartbroken

Tried to adopt a cat twice, the first time they gave the cat to another family, even though my sister did volunteer work for them for several months, and the second time I submitted an online as well as a physical form (in the physical one clarifying that I already filled the online form and it was just in case), received an email saying that I should be getting a response in 7 business days, that was almost 2 months ago, never received anything, not a call, not an email, nothing. This is really a shame, because you have someone trying to adopt an animal, but you make it so hard that people end up with no option other than buy a pet.
