“I’ve been with OTF for 2 years now and I love it ! But after the 1st year I finally listen to the coaches to lift HEAVY and the workout is NEVER the same and that’s what makes it fun !! You are only competing with yourself ! I love ALL the coaches and they are always helping ! Recently 2 differant people were saying to me that the coach embarrassed me by saying to go faster or lift heavier and I answered as I want them to do that to me I’m there to be corrected I wanna better myself I want their input on me !”

There are a million positive things I can say, however what stands out the most is this: when the world shut down, when everyone was stuck at home, when small business were failing, John Hogan (Spur owner) didn’t shut down. He locked his doors like he was suppose to, he wasn’t making money, like everyone else. BUT he didn’t give up on his membership. He was still creating workouts for his membership, communicating with them, and LOANING the equipment to people who didn’t have any. He isn’t just a business owner, he is a community man, and a leader.”

I've had the opportunity to work out here and learn so much from each of the trainers as well as get to know them personally. Firstly, the gym is clean and they have a variety of equipment. They put a lot of effort into making the gym a great atmosphere and they have succeeded. Secondly, the owners Stephanie and Michael are intelligent and professional. They know what they're doing. When they program they take into consideration their clients and past workouts so the classes continue to be fun and challenging. Lastly, the people who work here are sincere. They care about their people. The community is wonderful, almost instantly you can see the friendships that have grown and thrived in this gym. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone no matter their level or knowledge of exercise. You will grow here and learn. One of the first things we did upon arriving was to look for a gym that would allow us to resume physical activity and rehab a full knee replacement. We wanted one which had the latest in equipment, was clean and had a knowledgeable training staff. After looking around we decided on Retro Fitness. The first time we entered the facility we were greeted positively --- we want you to belong was the message--- I knew this was the place. And I have not been disappointed. Tim Wade, our personal trainer, took on our training in January 2023. His workout regiments were setup to improve our stability and agility and it has paid dividends. When Tim first began with us, my wife having a mild case of COPD and me with a new knee he had his hands full. My walking was considered a shuffle. My legs and hips were stiff and my leg strength needed work. My wife, required work on her stamina, it was not bad but at our age anything we can do to improve our overall health is a plus. Tim has done what we consider a spectacular job in getting us to a point where my legs are functioning much better. I am able to pedal a full cycle on the stationary bike something I was not able to do when we started. We still need more work but like all things, it will come with time. His management and our determination will be the key. We work with Tim twice a week and it is a workout! We are on our own one day a week. Our minimum gym time is 3 days a week. In closing I cannot say enough about the staff who is always friendly and the membership which is the same way. Members speak to other members and encourage them as well. I have seen those working out tutor some of the youthful members to enact good form and get the most out of an exercise. This gym is a class act, And yes we are well above 65.”

I have been going to many different PF gyms throughout NY for the last 7 years. I genuinely enjoy coming in at night and seeing that he’s there because I know I will have a positive experience. He is so extremely kind, helpful, and attentive. I see him cleaning his ENTIRE shift. I sometimes use multiple Black Card benefits back to back, and he assures me that it’s no problem and shows absolutely no discontent with me doing so. I seriously recommend giving him a raise. I would never want to lose an employee like this.”
“SEFCU gym is decent for the free gym for UAlbany students. However, machines are often OOO and rather than fixing it, they just put up tape for months and eventually bin the machine. The weights on the new bench press also don’t match the current weights. They need to fix their broken mirrors and clear out the vents because there’s very visible dust on all the vents. Also, poor ventilation / no fans to help facilitate airflow.”

They’ve even recently added more space in the back for additional power racks, deadlift spaces, and leg presses.The higher-tier memberships include things like tanning, pool, climbing wall, fitness classes, basketball court, and personal training. All good stuff, you just need to find the thing that best suits your needs.If I could find anything to be critical of, I would say that this is not a 24-hour facility. If you’re planning to work out before 5 AM, this might not be the place for you. Otherwise, overwhelmingly positive experience and I recommend it to my friends.”

Except for some of the members who always misuse their time there and leave the equipment dirty and do not wipe it down after each use. The men’s bathroom, there’s always someone who flushes paper towels into the urinal, and that always causes it to be clogged and broken, so it always out of order.”
“I've been a member for several years at Best Fitness on Fuller Rd. in Albany. This location is kind of a hidden gem in the area. The facility is incredibly clean and well maintained. The staff is very friendly, and always working hard.They have a very good selection of free weights, kettlebells, and machines as well as foam rollers and bands. Plenty of squat racks and plenty of room in workout areas to do what you need to do. I definitely recommend Best to anyone over VENT Fitness.”
