I filed my own taxes for many years, but went to the H&R block in Utica after moving there from out of state. I needed to file for two states and it became complicated. Terri was awesome. She explained everything throughout the process, and when I ended up owing money she took the time to explain how I could put myself in a better situation the next year. I went back this year even though I only had one state to file for this time, and I ended up with a return. Her advice had me right on track. She offered more advice for this year, and told me to reach out in the summer so she could check everything and let me know if I was on track again or needed to make adjustments. It took her less than 20 minutes to file as well. We couldn't be happier with the treatment we received. Thanks Terri!

I initially went to their Hannaford Plaza office but they transferred me here. The service is good as it is and they've educated me regarding my tax situation clearly.

I have been going to this location for 5 years, however this will be my last year… First, one of my W-2 was lost and my return amount was not correct. I had to send a second copy from my employer, and make another trip to the location to straighten the issue out and I live approximately a hour away. Second, I received a letter saying I now owe over $400 due to an error. I returned to have it fixed and apparently it cannot be fixed. This office ran great when Lisa C was there, she always did my taxes. I don’t know the staff in there now, but from my experience not knowledgeable and not very apologetic for errors that are not the customers fault. I get it, a lot of your customers are probably not organized when they come in and it makes your job difficult, but I have all of my tax info in the same folder every year. I drop off my taxes this year to receive a different folder and missing w-2, incorrect filling, and who know probably incorrect return. Save yourself, skip this location.

Unfortunately I had a very bad experience with H&R Block that I would like to share for the sake of someone else not getting ripped off.My husband and I do our own taxes yearly. We usually end up owing both federal and state taxes since we have no children and make a pretty descent income. But we had questions this year since he commutes long distances for his job with the military. We signed up to meet with an H&R Block consultant who claims to have >30 years experience. We met with the consultant who was an elderly woman completely incompetent in basic computer skills. I had to show her how to open up a .pdf file and how to print it from her own computer. I also had to show her that she needed to type in my address in the bar that said "address required", and told her she needs to type from left to right, not right to left. She was kind and respectful don't get me wrong., but H&R Block cannot have a "tax expert" who cannot work computers. In addition, she was unable to answer the questions my husband and I had. She stated we could not claim his commute because that was new as of 2017. However, we did research and right on the IRS website it says he does qualify based upon his military status and amount of miles commuted. So the consultant was wrong in that regard.Ultimately all she did for us was type in our W-2s which took her >45 minutes. We ended up owning about $300 for federal and state combined which is more than we have ever owed, on top of the $190 service fee H&R block charged us for her services. I feel this service was a complete waste of time and money. Do your own research to avoid getting ripped off. I also tried to reach out to H&R Block customer service about this as to avoid posting a public review, and there is no online customer service form as well as long holding times for the phone number.Follow up months later....I recieved a notification from this company due to my poor review asking if the issue can be resolved. I was put in touch with the branch manager/supervisor via email and she reached out to me. She described the company's vague policy how customer service and professional help is not part of their policy nor guarantee. Therefore, despite the fact that the "tax professional" could not answer my tax questions and was not knowledgeable nor helpful, this does not fall under any company policy necessitating a resolution or refund. I told the supervisor a company that lacks any policy on customer service or satisfaction is a company no client should be dealing with and I will continue voice my frustration to any potential clients. I never received a follow up email after that.H&R Block does not care about customers nor have any policy on how to treat us with professional service.
