I won’t be shopping here ever again. This place used to have deals! Now their new manager has increased prices by 20-30% more! For food that’s expired and rejected! This place is supposed to be a non profit and they get most of what they sell as donations! Ridiculous now! You’ll spend close to what you’d spend at regular stores now! You have to realize the bargain prices are because most foods have a short sell by date, or are already past the sell by dates. As such, you have to be mindful what you buy and check dates. It used to help on a budget, but not anymore! The other thing that bothers me is the set up of the store, as you almost have to wait behind people to get to the next item lol. It’s a smaller store so it ends up being time consuming bc of the set up, etc.

I don't get to go as often as I'd like to. When I do, most of the time I can find some good deals

Excellent grocery store. The produce card is invaluable for someone who eats fresh fruit and veggies, but make sure you check them ??

I bought fresh figs here and the next day all of them were covered in mold. While the prices are good, if you're not prepared to use it immediately, skip the fresh and go to frozen.

Once you learn the layout and are highly adaptable, this is an excellent place to save food from our discard society and eat well (even organically)!

I'm so mad at the price gouging lately. I'm not shopping here anymore, especially when we're being charged like full store prices for outdated items, they're supposed to be helping us poor folk, but how? I bought paesanellas extra virgin olive oil from bargin 29.99$ it's not even a gallon, the company that makes it charges $16.99 for the exact thing, and I'm sure theres bulk discounts. Today was it,I went in grabbed a beat up box of outshine strawberry ice cream bars and they were Priced at $7.99, Wal-Mart has the same box nice and clean for $7.98. At 1st I'd notice little things and did put it in their survey, but now they down right don't care what they charge. It's not helping anyone but their own pockets and I thought you'd do better for us! Silly me

The Garbage Grocer is not one of my regular stops anymore. I always knew that the items there were rejects from other stores but the price hikes are not only ridiculous but unethical. See my photos of their prices on a few essentials below where they charge MORE than other stores that ship them these items as rejects. This store is to also help support lower income people in that area that can't really get to other stores. Given the increases under new management they are crippling and already struggling part of Utica.
I really recommend people boycott this store for their unethical practices that are further crippling the people that really do need a bargain to get by. I also had to return rotten items that were unedible the day I purchased them so an indication that they don't check the items for any sort of quality too. The produce many times has mold or is clearly ready for compost, the lettuce is usually infested with aphids. The food prices are near retail also on rejected foods. This means something isn't of good quality and why these stores reject them. No food is supposed to be sold expired in NY state unless it's clearly marked and substantially discounted. These here are not substantially discounted if it's not close to half off retail. They do not fullfill this requirement either.
Natural care wipes 56 ct. 3.99 while at walmart etc are 2.27-2.59
Baby basics diaper cream 9.99 while 5.59 as you see in my online search also you could get a similar one locally for way less than 9.99
Sun bum these are similar in price to other places but as you see one is 1/3 empty so shouldn't even be on the shelf. They appeared to discount that one dollar more because it's open and partly gone. ?
Revlon dye 4.99 normally 3.97-3.99 locally.
This place is charging the local lower income people MORE than retail many times when they get the majority of what they sell as donations while claiming to be a nonprofit.
Well, I hope you all have been enlightened and boycott this dumpster fire with me until they turn things around for those who truly need a bargain to get by.
