I’ve been living at the news for almost two years now and I love it. The apartment staff is always friendly and helpful and the facilities are clean and beautiful. I highly recommend anyone to live here! Plus it’s dog friendly so loves of really cute dogs to say hi too! My pup always love the free dog treats in the lobby and I’m so thankful for the pet bath!

Truly a great living experience. I stayed here for my final year at RPI as a masters student and Julia on the management team provided all the flexibility and accommodations I needed. The leasing team in general are some of the most professional and respectful I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The building is amazingly located and the room was extremely well kept and outfitted. The all-in-living and included 100/100 internet plan made handling utilities a non-existent burden. Though on the upper end of the rent spectrum, especially for Troy, if you are looking for a higher-end place to stay this is definitely one to consider.

The News Apartments is a great place to live. The building and amenities are nice and very well maintained. The lobby always smells so fresh and clean. During the peak of COVID, staff went over and beyond to make sure all residents were safe. They truly care about their residents including the fur babies.During the 2 years at News, I was extremely happy and would still be a resident but moved due to personal reasons. Any issue(s) is addressed immediately.Julia, leasing manager, is very professional and knowledgeable. As I stated earlier, she truly cares about her residents and it so kind and understanding. The entire staff is so friendly and helpful.I would not hesitate to rent again at the News Apartments.

I lived in the News for one year and had a great experience! Julia was a great property manager and maintenance were excellent. I lived in the “old” side of the building and never had any noise issues through the walls. My only complaint was a persistent weed smell at night coming from the apartment below me. Julia did her best to rectify the situation however it was only fixed once the tenants moved out. The building amenities were well kept and everyone in the building is very nice. I highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I moved to the news at 501 Broadway last Spring. Our experience living here has been phenomenal. The maintenance staff are attentive and friendly. The property manager, Julia, is extremely courteous and welcoming. The quality of the apartments is second to none. There’s plenty of light and the balcony is spacious. We easily fit a hammock and some potted plants and flowers on it. 10/10 would recommend.

We have been at the News Apartments since August 2019. I didn't see us as a long-term renters but its so nice to have a comfortable and carefree place near RPI that we keep extending our lease. I've had my college experience already, so I know that this building is more than a few notches above the typical college rental and that's reflected in other professionals who have been here as long or longer than us. Some value I realize after going through the pandemic in our apartment were having a healthy, safe, and secure place. The common areas are always clean and attended to, and each apartment has it's own seperate heat and ac air handeling unit which was such peace of mind in 2020. The portion of the building we're in is new and the finishes are high quality and durable so not much has needed attention but when something does it's handled professionally, I think their tenant portal is no nonsense and works well. Also I appreciate the overall building, great care was taken on this project to fit the new portion of building in with the historic portion of building and is a compliment to downtown Troy. Some amenities you might not realize until you live here are that there is tons to do in downtown Troy without ever getting in the car. For me walking to my favorite coffee shop in the morning, or burning off some excess energy on the RPI Memorial Approach(huge & grand outdoor staircase) across the street is priceless. The only issue we had was dealt with by management before it caused us any grief. One of the former tenants became laser focused on noise during the lockdown. One thing about living in an active downtown is that there is some ambient noise and such is life in the city. With all the glass, albiet thick as it is, I'll take the hum of the city compared to the drown of the suburbs.

Lived at the News for two years and absolutely loved it! The apartments are beautiful and modern designed with huge windows, the rooftop firepit and grill area was always a favorite spot when I had guests visiting, and having off-street parking was a huge plus for me. You also can't beat the location, walking distance to all the great restaurants and shops and events that downtown Troy has to offer! I didn't have a single issue with my apartment while living here and would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to move into Troy.

We have lived in The News since it opened two and a half years ago and love it. After 28 years living in suburban houses, we wanted to live in an urban, walking neighborhood. The location is incredible, in walking distance of restaurants, shops, the Troy Farmers’ Market, local theater, the Arts Center, the Hudson River, and RPI. The building is a beautiful combination of the restored historic section and modern new construction. The building is very well maintained. Our apartment is also beautiful with large windows and an incredible amount of natural light. We have had no issues with the apartment. The building staff is very friendly and always helpful. Occasional maintenance needs have been minor and quickly dealt with. We also love having indoor parking. If you live in the Capital Region and want to live in a walkable neighborhood, then downtown Troy is one of very few choices, and we are extremely happy with The News in downtown Troy.

I just moved in a couple months ago and management are nice people. Julia is my go to person for any issue that may arise and maintenance are all efficient and the nicest people you'll ever have the pleasure to meet. I will admit there is some slight amount of noise that can be heard throughout the day, but the residents here are very courteous and as a whole do not have loud parties or anything of that nature. The units are all beautiful and I plan on extending my lease if I am allowed to by my current University. The surrounding area is as safe as you can get in Downtown Troy and you're always a short walk away from some amazing food options if you're ever feeling like ordering in. I believe the positives vastly outweigh any negatives people in the past have posted, although I find some of their comments hard to believe about management as a whole since I personally have not had any issues and other residents I've talked to all give maintenance and management glowing reviews on their work.

I have lived in this building since it opened in August 2018 and my experience has been horrific especially since the lockdown. My upstairs neighbors have turned their apartment into a 24/7 playground and a basketball court, all under the approving watch of management. All my noise complaints were thrown out the window and the property managers are pretty much paid to do lip service. Not what one would expect for a $2,000 rent for a 1BR and no parking. It's too bad as I was so excited when I moved!

I’ve been living at The News since the new building was built in July 2018. I love the location - It’s walkable to bars, restaurants, coffee shops, the farmer’s market, and tons of businesses. The apartments are modern, with stainless appliances, great color combinations and plenty of storage space. The laundry in the unit is HUGE. Pre-pandemic, I used the fitness center on a daily basis. The equipment was new and plentiful. The rooftop deck with fire pit and gas grill was a great gathering place for neighbors. Many times (pre-pandemic) we’d all bring food and beverages to share. Lots of fun. The management has had parties for the residents in the common area,, which is super nice, and a great way to meet neighbors. Management and the maintenance staff are very responsive to requests. The News is a great place to live in Troy!

Had a rocky start when I first moved in when the historic side opened for the first time, but since management has shifted a bit, I have loved my experience! The News does a great job at fostering a sense of community with building events and availability of common spaces. I personally am a big fan of the gym and the rooftop grill. The property manager, Libby, is responsive, understanding, and overall great. Maintenance is friendly and super prompt with requests and feel like part of the community.Street and neighbor noise is minimal (at least for me). Prices can definitely vary here; my unit was pre-leased before construction was complete, so my roommate and I got it for a deal. Rent increase per lease year is reasonable as well; mine only increased $65 after a year, which I split between myself and my roommate. The all-inclusive utilities are one of my favorite things about this building; I don't have to worry about being too cold or too warm to save money on electric! All doors are fob access, so security isn't an issue. There are lots of pets in the building and management is very pet friendly! There are fees associated with keeping dogs and cats, plus a $50 monthly pet rent per pet. Many of the units on the historic side have beautiful features inside, and each is unique! My unit has tall ceilings and some exposed painted brick and old beams, which is neat. The natural lighting is beautiful in my unit. The businesses in the building on the Broadway strip love residents of The News and give discounts when you show your key fob! They also sometimes will hold events in the building itself for resident appreciation, which is unbelievably cute.Last but not least, the location of this building is prime. It is within walking distance of most stores and restaurants in Troy, and is close to the farmer's market as well. I'm a grad student at RPI so I can easily catch the shuttle at Blitman Commons right across the street. The News is located in a friendly, well-lit neighborhood, so going out at night isn't worrisome. It's been a pleasure to live here until I finish my Ph.D. this coming summer. Definitely a wonderful place to live in Downtown Troy!
