I adopted my pup through Louie's two years ago. The sense of community and support was apparent immediately! They got to know me and what I was looking for in my next family member. To be totally honest, I was terrified as a first time dog owner! Everyone I spoke to made me feel confident and excited in my decision. Fast forward two years, my pup is the best the best thing I could have ever done for myself! I started volunteering with the rescue shortly after adopting her - and the care, support, and genuine passion for the animals is nothing short of inspiring. I can't recommend enough

07/15/2023I applied to adopt a kitten. The website stated kittens could be adopted in singles if there was another dog or cat in the home. I have 2 dogs. I was contacted and told I was approved and could meet and pickup my kitten in 2 days. Hours later the manager for Ohio contacted me and said the other manager was wrong to approve unless I adopted 2 kittens and no I couldn't adopt this kitten. I contacted the other manager and she said the ohio manager was wrong and she would call her. She then came back and said there was a sudden policy change after my adoption was approved. She was very frustrated with the ohio manager and said she has never seen anything like this. I pointed out the policy on the website and that it wasn't fair to change the policy after my application had been submitted. I understand the animals needs come first but when your gatekeeping gets out of hand and you deny animals good homes you are no longer doing your job. I would have been a lifetime supporter

Stay far away from this rescue!!! I was approved to adopt a puppy but had to foster until he got fixed. They do not give any rules for fosters, didn't do any background checking (calling references, Facetime to see your home), they also don't reimburse for any food/crates/toys/etc. like every other rescue I've worked with.Their communication was absolutely TERRIBLE. At one point I got an automated email saying the puppy was over a month over due for vaccines and anti-tick/flea and anti- heartworm meds that should have been given at the previous fosters. It took weeks to get a response regarding these time sensitive meds/vaccines. They also expected me to drive 1 1/2 hours to get him fixed and then made me find a vet that would do it at a reduced price when I said I wouldn't drive that far. The head of medical Marilyn was difficult to deal with and had an attitude. She sent herself the certificate from FOA instead of me and then told the vet that they should be paying for the neuter since they're a rescue. Once he was cleared for adoption they asked me to sign the papers and send them the $800 fee for him. I asked for his medical records prior to adopting him as they claimed he was "fully vetted". They refused to give me his medical records prior to me sending the money. I stood my ground and finally when they sent them they were laughable. He was never assessed by a veterinarian, missing vaccines, missing multiple doses of preventatives, no fecal, no bloodwork. They claimed that unless the dog is showing symptoms they wouldn't do any assessment/fecal/bloodwork. At this point I was so fed up I just wanted the dog in my name and paid the money. Such an unpleasant experience. Please adopt elsewhere.

I went to browse I wasn’t sure if I wanted a dog because I just had recently lost my Sadie 3 mos ago. My home wasn’t sweet anymore without her I cried all the time. So, we browsed and considered Bella, the most beautiful doggy. Bella Beans has since been renamed Stella because she’s not only beautiful she’s strong! The staff was very professional and warm. I couldn’t wait to meet her. I was so excited! They introduced me and my son to Stella and we fell in love. Even though Stella was not house trained it’s been one week and she is steadily pooping outside, she’s very playful and very happy in her new home. We still have some training issues but she’s so smart I’m sure she’ll learn quickly, so happy with Stella she’s a real sweetie. Home sweet home again!

Our amazing volunteer from Louie's Legacy helped us adopt this precious pup. We are forever grateful.

I adopted from Louie's Legacy and thought everything was fine. Two weeks later in the vet's office we got the tests back for Giardia and tapeworms -- they were inches long, crawling out of her feces. She had been in the care of Louie's Legacy for months. I have now discovered (a year later) that she has advanced heartworm infection that two vets have said she must have had at adoption. My dog's records show no treatment for any digestive worms or infections like giardia and the vet was pretty shocked; the agency was so defensive when i contacted them to ask bout worm treatment (digestive, not heart) that i worry they are concerned about their org over the animals themselves.

If I could give zero stars I would. Came across a great dog (Clive) while I was in NYC alone and I got the fosters info in hopes I'd be able to adopt him. I could tell he had whippet in him and his sweet face really drew me in on the train! My significant other and I have been looking for a perfect friend for our spunky 2 year old Italian Greyhound named Cannoli. I eagerly submitted an application the day after on 8/5/22, but I was working on getting him approved in my building as an ESA as I already had the letter from my psychiatrist WAITING hopefully I'd eventually find "the one". I'm a veterinary technician and I know with rescues, placing them can be a lot harder due to temperaments or behavioral problems. Clive was shy, very submissive, but I could tell he was a bundle of joy immediately. Due to my building needing to approve the letter, I did need a few days in order to get Louie's Legacy the improvised lease approving my almost forever ESA. They told me that they wouldn't be able to hold my application and they WILL be moving onto the next applicant. They stressed to me that absolutely no one had shown interest and I shouldn't be worried at all. Today, 8/17/22 I was ecstatic to find out the ESA was approved and Clive was added to my lease. When I made the rescue aware that I could adopt Clive and I'd like to start the process, they said they have someone coming to see him this afternoon at 6pm and they will most likely adopt. And that's exactly what they did. I had persistently been expressing interest in Clive for a good two weeks every single day and the fact that they just adopt him out after a meet and greet and declared they could adopt IMMEDIATELY is disheartening to me. When I was asked if I would adopt from there in the future, after being coldly told he will be getting adopted today, I politely declined. And you should as well. Horrible staff. The foster was the only one that knew it wasn't the right thing. I'm glad he was under her care because she truly was the only one that cared. I was told by an employee (Rafaela) to have the attorney's approving the ESA "tell them to move quickly." The customer service that I received from this establishment is horrendous. I highly recommend adopting, but certainly not from this rescue. It's all about money and how quick they can get it. No compassion whatsoever.

Don't bother with this shelter, it's a waste of time, they don't answer emails or phone calls. How hard is it to check an application and meet with someone about a pet? Such a waste of time.

I filled out an application one night for 2 adorable kittens. I didn't think I'd hear anything for a couple of weeks at least. The next morning a very nice lady called my landlady to make sure I could have pets and then she texted me to set up a phone interview. An hour later we were speaking. We had a great chat and it ended with congratulations I'm approving you. You'll have the kittens by the weekend. We went out and spent a fortune getting every single thing we'd need for 2, 4 month old kittens. The following day I receive a text saying oh sorry the next stage denied you. You should reach out because I don't have any info. I sent 2 emails. The first went ignored and the second was so rude. It basically said management makes the decision. Sorry for the inconvenience. I had left my phone number and someone should have called me back. They also should have said that there was a second approval to go through. This woman had given me the address of the foster home. It was a done deal. In the end the whole thing was done extremely unprofessionally and I will never in the future use Louie's Legacy to adopt a pet and I absolutely wouldn't recommend them to anyone who actually wants a pet. Shame on them, especially during a pandemic. We were excited to get pets in the house again, but my toddler was even more excited. He's been home because of the pandemic and needed a new playmate and a pet so badly. I really felt let down by the whole situation. It almost made me give up on adoption. They never even called my personal references that they requested

Adopted my cat Neo and loved the level of care that they had for him in the process. Patty kept in touch with me making sure everything went well while he got used to his new home.
