We have been coming here for 2 years. Bruce and Martha are wonderful to deal with. They are honest, they don’t try to overcharge you for services or parts. I am shocked at the bad reviews. I have always found them to be very professional and pleasant.

For years I have driven all the way up from Brooklyn to have my maintenance done here. NEVER AGAIN. When I made the appointment earlier this week I asked how long it would take and was told one hour. I made an appt for 10:30 and yes, I ran late, I called and was told it would not be a problem. I arrived at 11:00. When I dropped off the car I let Bruce know that I needed my inspection sticker updated and also made it very clear that I had an important phone appt at 2:00 sharp and needed to be done before then so I could leave before 2. Bruce confirmed then, at 11:15, that it would be done in time. I then left. I was surprised to received a call at 1:35 asking me if I wanted my tires rotated. The car had been there for over 21/2 hours at this point. I let Martha know that I had to be done before 2:00, I had no flexibility. When I arrived at 1:40 I reminded Bruce again of my very important call at 2:00 sharp and the need to leave before it started. I tried to give him my card to charge it, he said he couldn't because he didn't know what services had been done. Martha was in the garage but he refused to ask her. For 5 minutes I pleaded with him to go ask her because I needed to get this done before I left. He responded by yelling and cursing at me, and refused to charge my card. I was 2 minutes late for the call, and then distracted because I was trying to get him to charge my card. Finally Martha brought the car out and I left, leaving my card there for him to charge. He called me multiple times - while I was on the phone with this important call. Because I was late leaving I hit traffic on the way home. And now I've found out that he never updated my inspection sticker so I have to make another trip tomorrow to have this done. He caused unneccesary stress, was beyond inconsiderate and unprofessional - yelling and cursing at me because I'm trying to pay him, and wasted hours of my time. Never again. Martha is lovely, he should retire and put her in charge. It's unfortunate that he put her in a bad position.

Despite living only a couple of miles away; this was my first experience at South Salem Auto Care. It was nice to find a convenient family-owned business - Bruce and Martha were great! I got the NY state inspection done and plan on returning to get tires soon.

Was hoping to find a good local shop for the long haul but couldn’t have predicted such a poor experience. While they seem have done a good job installing my trailer hitch but Bruce was consistently less than pleasant to deal with. Lacked communication throughout process.Made an appointment for service that should have be a 1 day job. Car seemingly was not ready that day as I got no call on status. Day 2 I called at 8:30 and was told car was in bay, didn’t know status, would call back. No call. My wife called around 5 that afternoon to see if it was ready. They said yes and they’d be there til 6. We decided to wait till morning to get the car back. We get there and first thing out of Bruce’s mouth is he waited for me til 6. I decided not to discuss communication issues with him and simply said I was sorry.Bill for service was more than 4x hours what the tow hitch manufacturer said it would take a pro to do (I brought the hitch in)! Manufacturer supplied step by step detailed instructions. I understand they have reason to make things sound rosier than reality, but 3 hours vs. 40 minutes is pretty wildly divergent. Double? Triple? You decide what the right number might be.Icing on cake: my wife pulls out of shop and a mile down the road the tire pressure light comes on for a rear tire. She goes back and asks if someone can look and Bruce immediately says we didn’t touch the tire and she probably ran over something. Says it’s a whole new work order for someone to look. Shocked by his attitude she just asks if someone can put air in. He does agree to that.I guess he doesn’t need customers like me.Service: General repairs & maintenance

My husband and I usually get our cars serviced near our work places but so happy to have found a local place minutes from our house! Had a great first experience at South Salem Auto, Bruce and Martha were wonderful to deal with! Got NY state inspection early Saturday and it was done faster then expected. This is definitely our new spot!

Great first experience at South Salem Auto after recently moving to the area from NYC. I love that it’s a local, family-owned business - Bruce and Martha are both excellent to deal with! Got NY state inspection, tires & wheel alignment done in a timely manner and at a fair price. Definitely my new go-to for auto care.

Excellent service that was also efficient and friendly in the most lovely setting. I fed chickens with my toddler while we waited. Good coffee and a shady place to sit under an umbrella as well. Looking forward to my service next year. An asset to the community.
