Smith Point, on the Fire Island barrier beach, is a haven for sportsmen, surfers and beach lovers. In season there is lifeguarded swimming. The campground on site allows both tent and RV camping. Reservations are suggested as this is one of the County's most popular campgrounds. All sites have water, and many have electric hookups and sewers. Off-road 4x4 vehicles, with permit only, may drive on the eastern portion of the outer beach. All beach-goers are advised to respect the marked, protective fencing around the nest sites of endangered shorebirds inhabiting the ocean and bay beaches.
