They work for lots of people. But Guernsey's is for you if you want a broad selection of plant material in a variety of sizes, most of it grown locally. "Grown locally" is important. Those plants are acclimated - they are grown here and are used to our climate. A rhododendron grown in the Carolinas is lush and full, but has never seen our windy, 0-degree January days. Plant survival is never certain, but your chances are better with Northern-grown material. Also, Guernsey's hasn't lasted 130 years by bringing in plants, half-neglecting them, then marking them down. You will still find decent specimens after the Spring rush. Selection is better then most places. Prices are competitive. Service is good. Bottom line, this is worth the drive when the limited selection of run-of-the-mill trees, shrubs, and perennials at the box stores won't do. For me, that is almost always...”
