I'm normally not one for negative reviews but the tellers could be a little friendlier at this location...

Used to be my go to bank until the pandemic it's a main branch used to be open later on certain days and on Saturday I work all day during the week the bank closes at 3 by the time I get into Schenectady it's closed I think a main branch should be more accommodating for those that work

Now, I do my banking here at trustco, since my old bank, which was first Niagara closed its doors. I like this bank alot since Key Bank, which took over first Niagara, don't use bankbooks, but Trustco Bank does. I got something from Trustco Bank to me, which will be my momento since that my account has been transfered here from First Niagara (pictured here), which is a bank that looks like a miniature house that you put money (or change) in, that has a Trustco Bank logo on top of it (the roof portion of it).

Trustco bank is the absolute worst bank in the Capital Region. Their 'Customer Service' has the lowest standards of any financial institution I have ever encountered. They never return phone calls and when/if they ever do the issue you are calling about is NEVER resolved. No one at any branch level has the authority to do absolutely anything on your account. It seems only the Vice Presidents have the authority to effect any changes to resolve any issues you may have. When you call the Customer Service number, IF you actually get a live person, they are without fail never able to fully resolve your issue. They are the worst in terms of automation and can get virtually nothing accomplished electronically. The lack of respect they treat their customers with is unacceptable. We will be closing all our accounts immediately.

While the employees at this location have usually been helpful, Trustco bank is an absolutely horrible bank, and many of their policies will drive you crazy. They require you to physically come in to their bank in order to do anything; nothing can be done online, nothing over the phone. They can't take payments via debit card from another bank, only cash or check. They can't take checks over the phone. They can't change your address without completing a long form at the bank, and if you move without telling them (or, in my case, complete the form only to find out they filed it incorrectly), then they'll start charging you $5 per month of "return mail fees" until you come in again. Their process for refunding fees is abhorrent (and basically nonexistent). I can't speak more negatively for this bank. Again... the employees of the bank have been fine, for the most part; they're just doing what they've been trained to, and that's no fault of their own. If it weren't for that, I'd rate the bank 1 star.

Having a mortgage with Trustco is like taking a step back in time. Working with the local branches is easy and usually productive for most banking needs. If you want to make extra payments to your mortgage, be prepared for a nightmare of a hassle. First off, many of the transactions have to go through their main branch. This means physical paper has to be couriered from the branch you use to the main branch and then (hopefully) processed (correctly if you're lucky). It took several tries to make an additional principal payment to the mortgage. They didn't seem to have any difficulty in applying my payment to the interest (essentially stealing from me). Once I got a recurring payment successfully going toward the principal I wanted to make a minor change to the amount I had set up: nightmare part 2. Needless to say they again had no trouble adding my money to the interest (stealing again!) rather than the principal. Issue is still not resolved.
