If you know Zara they are having a sale where the prices are even lower for brand new unworn items so why rip off customers at your store? This Salvation Army is tripling the prices for Zara items. If all your prices are set based on what they are.. why are you changing them?Plato’s closet is down the road for cheaper and the management team speaks to you beautifully.I don’t believe the customer is always right, but talking about a customer indirectly to another employee while they are standing there is unprofessional and rolling your eyes at the person shows how your managers need to improve their social and management skills. The manager Sharon should be demoted for her nasty attitude with people who are clearly spending $$$ at your store.Get. A. New. Job. that doesn’t involve people if you’re not a people person. If Sharon was having a bad day I’m sorry, but please stop taking it out on the customers and God Bless you may god be with you during your difficult days.

It'd be nice if something else besides staples were used to put tags on clothes. I bought a really nice shirt, but didn't notice till afterwards that staples from the tag placement had put holes in the shirt.

Not the cleanest store, but there is always a great selection of clothing and house goods.I happen to be at the Salvation Army the day the previous review, Joseph Hope, talked about. This is not exactly what happened. The manager was cashiering and the “mob” mentioned was the line of customers cashing out. This woman, who played the “underpaid teacher” as well as the “single mom” card in an attempt to get a discount of books that are 3/$1, would not drop the issue. The manager told her no additional discounts- but did tell her they will be half off if she wants to come back tomorrow. She would not accept this answer. She was not in line, but standing at the cash out line (hence the mob). The manager even sternly had to ask to her to stop harassing him. The customers were merely sticking up for the manager who was the one being pressed.

Today, Thursday March 9,2023- between 5-6pm. I saw a woman ask if they could do a discount on books as she had a giant stack he said no. She didn’t press him again, but he kept complaining very loudly. It was really awkward since it formed a mob mentality that this poor woman who said she was a public school teacher was trying to reason with the manager and crowd about why she asked for a discount- not that she kept demanding one. He kept making fun of her with customers and she was clearly getting upset. He was downright heckling her. It was really upsetting to watch and I will not be doing business as long as that manager is there. I’ve never seen someone working as a “manager” pump up a crowd against a public school teacher. People were shouting things at her- but she called him out for being rude but it continued. The manager would not give a name when she asked him so I’m not sure what it is but it was a male- white- 40,s- baldish. I’ve never seen anything quite like it from a “manager”. I’m surprised the woman even bought anything after all that….

Was here on 2/14 around 10 a.m. and the man working front register didn't even hand me any change back or a receipt. Just called the next customer over to check out. Would not have minded if it was just a few cents but I was out a few dollars because of this. Tried to ask but they just cut me off and said they had to help the next person in line. Absolutely horrid for a church-run store. Most of the stuff in the electronics/housewares section of this store is overpriced junk. Some things don't even have all of the pieces included or are just the empty cases of the actual items. Who in their right mind would want to buy anything like that?? This store used to have such an awesome selection of clothes, furniture, and the like. Seems like this particular location has gone quite downhill over the past year or two with not wanting to accept donations, trying to sell garbage, etc.

UPDATE: it's December 2nd 2022 at 4:45 and they lock the door as we are approaching it to shop. They opened the door slightly when I inquired and said they were short staffed even though there were at least three staff members in view. How many staff members do you need to run a thrift store? If you truly are short staffed stay open to your regular hours just don't take in or price any more merchandise and strictly run the registers. They did the same thing last week telling people they were closing early at 4:30. How does this store expect to make any money when they close early constantly especially during the holiday season just when people are starting to get out of work. In the past few years Salvation Army has said revenue and donations are down especially at Christmas with the red kettle campaign . I'm sure closing your stores early and restricting people's donation time window to drop things off is a huge part of it. From now on all my charity donations and money donations will be strictly going to City mission. They accept most items and don't close there store down on whims because they truly don't feel Ike being there.Went here on a Wednesday night and arrived at 4:55. Walked in and was told they are closing at 5 today. This store continuously decides randomly to close that it's ridiculous. Also don't go by any hours listed they say on here they are open till 7pm but haven't been open that late in two years. They claim they don't have the ability to change the hours online. What?. They also only take donations on certain days and times that change constantly with whoever is working deciding to take or not take donations. Look around the store and most shelves are empty and the floors are filthy. I don't think the floors have been mopped in ages. The manager here is nice and some staff can be nice at times but it is frustrating to go here when hours change on a day to day basis with donating or buying.

Tried to drop some donations today but was told to “take the whole thing away” in regards to the tote of donations (decorations, puzzles, misc items) and “we don’t take learnin’ books” in regards to the 5 fiction books I was trying to donate. When I questioned this but of information about the books, I was told “we don’t sell those” and, again “we don’t take learnin’ books.” This was surprising to me, since I’ve bought books at the Salvation Army for the last 20+ years. I’ve tried to call the store to verify this, but I’ve gotten a busy signal for the last 2 hours.

Recently called to inquire about donating an appliance and dealt with the most rude employee on the phone. Expectation for a Christian run establishment to have more respect for public encounters, but I guess my standards were too high. All good, donation went to an establishment that was respectful and grateful to receive it.

We used to come here maybe once a month or so. I was completely turned off last week by overhearing the manager approach a woman and her partner with 3 children, one in a stroller, and tell her she needed to buy a shirt to cover herself up. I glanced at her, and she was wearing two tank tops, one over the other. I personally don’t think that was at all offensive on a hot day; does the church affiliated with the store have a dress code for the stores? Somehow I don’t think so. I didn’t buy anything as I was disgusted. I did see the woman and her family continue to shop and she didn’t buy a shirt.

I have been shopping happily here for the past few years as well as the Salvation Army Glenville location. These are unbelievable stores and I don’t know how I ever could afford these clothes previous to going here. Today; in fact, I noticed at this Central Avenue location is obviously much bigger but I spoke to the sweet cashier girl and I said I noticed there’s a ton of the brand ‘Zara’ which is a very good name and most of them are new with TAG from baby clothes to shoes to really nice dresses to jeans everything. Now normally these would be upwards of $100 - $200 and of course they’re not your average Salvation Army Prices instead of a $1.99 tag, for instance some thing that would be $200 brand new is mark down to under $20… most of this collection has all the tags on them and they’re gorgeous. I notice a lot of the reviews about all the Salvation Army‘s and complain about the clothes are not in order of size but beggars can’t be choosers I will say it’s aggravating to see that because you’re getting such great deals on a lot of brand new clothes that are marked down to pennies and they’re going to complain about silly thing like having to shop a little bit longer to search for the lowest bottom possible deals anywhere ! People please stop with this gripe. If anyone has noticed, they actually organize all the clothing by color which seems even more impossible to do than by size and I think it’s an amazing way to arrange all things. But besides that they are all sectioned easily marked aisles of pants shirts dresses etc. it’s not all just lumped in together. Central Avenue location being bigger has obviously way more non-clothing items such as couches furniture dishware some really incredible stuff if you’re not too lazy to actually stand on your 2 feet and look at them for a few minutes or hours. All staff at every location has been extremely helpful and generous. I have zero to complain about besides the fact that maybe things are too affordable ? just kidding Will not EVER complain about that… I love that fact! Lastly I have size 10 feet with highest possible arches which is a freaking nightmare usually trying to find anything to fit this Sasquatch but shockingly today I proudly left with FOUR pairs of beautiful shoes (heels) and four dressy shirts, two pairs of khakis and two DKNY wool short skirts plus Zara brand new leggings with stirrups ! This all cost me $28.50 How insane is that deal?? Crazy right? Love it. Office appropriate clothing and shoes for work as it goes without saying they have casual sneakers flip-flops I even tried on a pair of clear stripper heels today which was so cheap I almost wanted to buy them just to say I owned a pair even though I could never wear them in public. Seeing as they were only $3 and on a green label day that makes them $1.50 I might go back this instant. The first thing you need to always remember to do when you walk into any Salvation Army is to look up in the air above your head to check the three colors of the day [today pink•yellow•green] if you think I can remember those three colors you’re dead wrong so I have to take a picture of it with my phone sadly in case I’m so deep into shopping way back in the store and I can’t seem to focus on those colors way up at the front cashier. But either $.99 or half off those colors on the ticket I’m very cheap and proud of it so I will not allow myself to buy anything until that color pops up on that day of the week which is not too tough since I’m at any location of Salvation Army at least once a week. Obsessed with this place 200%Anywhere getting my total approval is totally worth visiting. For Real. Really real.
