This place is a horrible excuse for a business. They fail to mention all of the charges that will occur if you return your rental with the key drop. They will also raise their voice and literally call you stupid for inquiring about these charges. The car was rented through AAA, and they refused to honor the price stating that this is what we're charging. An absolute horrendous excuse for a business.

Eli is filling in this at state street location. He called me a dirty uber driver. Why is he even at the state street location filling in? He treat customers the same over at Latham location look at previous reviews. To make it even worse he stated to the only female worker at the state street location. "CAN YOU HELP THIS DIRTY UBER DRIVER" OF COURSW SHE STATED "I DIDN'T HEAR HIM!" HOWEVER, MY SISTER WAS ON SPEAKER PHONE WHO CLEARLY HEARD HIM JUST AS I DID.
LETS NOT TALK ABOUT WHO'S DIRTY OR NOT.
LETS START WITH HIS DIRTY MOUTH AND HOW MANY CUSTOMER'S COMPLAIN AGAINST HIM. HOWEVER, HE'S STILL WORKONG FOR HERTZ SMH.
LETS TALK ABOUT HOW DIRTY HE IS ACTUALLY BY THE LOOKS OF HIM FROM HEAD TOE

Used Apple Pay to prepay. When I arrived they told me I had to call Hertz to change over the credit card since there was no physical card. This put me on hold for nearly an hour.
Then when I was checking out they gave me two options. To either downgrade to an electric car (which was cheaper than the car I booked at the time of booking) or pay extra for a different car. Even by choosing the electric car I was still charged the economy car price, this is why it was a downgrade. Other rental car agencies I have used in the past have helped me out and I have not been downgraded due to their own inventory issues.
After hour drop off instructions also were confusing. It said put the rental agreement number in the subject line. There was a confirmation number and a record number, none of the documentation until I got the final recipe had a “rental agreement number.”
Guessing the folks at this particular branch are not to blame, so this review isn’t entirely directed at them personally, more about Hertz in general.

I've needed to rent cars from this Hertz twice now and each time they have been friendly, personable, and professional. I got in and out quickly and my rental car was always in good condition. So yeah, solid place and if you need to rent I would advise you to check them out.

Worst customer service EVER. Never keep you updated on status of rental, and once you get someone on the phone they just cop an attitude and hang up on you as if they didn’t just inconvenience you for hours on end. Unbelievable. Thanks Harold for a great Monday!

Called weeks in advance to make a reservation for a trip that was an early Christmas present for my younger brother. I was hoping to request a vehicle with AWD. A rude member of the staff told me to go online and make the reservation and then proceed to complain how Hertz is incentivizing them to push electric cars. So, I went online and made a reservation for a small sedan. The day of the trip, an hour before we were to leave, I showed up to pick up my car and was told they didn't have it and I could take an electric car or pay more for an SUV. I opted for the electric car and can say that I now regret that decision. My brother and I made it to our destination with literal seconds to spare before the event started, because of our multiple stops we had to make to charge the car, which was not factored into the trip because I was not expecting to have to take an electric car. The real fun began when after the temperature dropped, the car's battery began to use more power and charge slower. We left at 11 pm and were supposed to be home around 3 am to catch some sleep before having to return the rental car at 11 am. We did not arrive back in Schenectady until 9:30 am due to having to slow charge due to temperature so many different times on our route. Upon returning, I then attempted to charge the car to return it within 5% of the received charge amount, per Hertz and it would take an hour and a half to full charge the car on a fast charger. I arrived to the first charging station to find that it was not functioning from an interface standpoint. The car was on 10% charge. I then drove over to SCCC and their chargers physical connections were not working and it was not a fast charger, so even if they did work there was no way way the car would charge in time. Also, the car was now on 5% and I was beginning to worry about the car dying. So I attempted to call Hertz 3 times. Each time I would be answered by the same employee saying please hold then placing me on hold for a few minutes before disconnecting the call. So I decided to use what range I had to get it back to Hertz. I then came into the lobby where a very frustrated and unhappy employee had me wait. I then tried to explain my situation to her and why the car was at the 3% that it was at, and that I felt I shouldn't be charged the $35 fee because I attempted to have it charged and for reasons outside my control I could not and how I shouldn't have to deal with it because I had requested a gas car anyway and would've happily filled a gas car back up to return to them. She then stated that it wasn't up to her and told me to call corporate. So I filed a complaint with Hertz corporate. This was Saturday. It is now Tuesday and still no word back yet. My guess is I won't hear back from them. My other guess, based on the information from my first contact with them, is that they won't attempt to get you the car that you want, and instead just assume you really need a car and will pawn an EV off on you and you will take it out of a need for a vehicle and they get whatever incentive they get for electric cars. Will be going with Enterprise from here on out. Please take this as a warning and don't let this happen to you.

Horribly rude and non-compassionate customer service. I only used Hertz because they are the rental company preferred by my insurance company and I needed a vehicle after mine was totaled in an accident. I experienced rude customer service over the phone and in person. The only vehicle they had available for me within the coverage of my insurance company, was an electric vehicle. I voiced the fact that I have never driven an electric vehicle and have no idea how charging them worked. I was assured that it was a very easy process - given my experience I’d have to very strongly disagree.
