got my brakes done cause they were bad charged me 450 so I said where did you get the parts from told me I called he charged me 145 for each caliper but I know that u get a core money back which is 50 dollars a caliper so I asked for my calipers back they said no we didn't charge u for core I said I looked up the price it's 145 with a 50 core back and he's like u need to wait till the manager is here but how did he know he didn't charge me for the core if he's telling me now I have to wait dor the manager lol so when you get stuff from there make sure u look up the part and how much money in core they keep add that into the price

This was some years ago, but it's fresh in my mind. My mother gave this place her sole business for 50 years. Not just buying gas, but many other things as well. When she was in the hospital dying and I returned home to be with her, I asked if I could use her charge card to rent a car. I was refused. And it wasn't with regret like, "Gosh, we're sorry, but we're just not allowed to do that." It was with utter apathy, even though I told them the situation. My cousin, who lives in New York City, then called up and attempted to pay for me with her charge card. She was told she had to make the trip to the station and pay in person. Finally, when she screamed at them, they let her pay by phone. I'll certainly never set foot in the place.

After many good transactions with Dave, I've always felt, until recently, that the work at Scarsdale Shell was honest and that their prices were fair. However, I guess there's a new mechanic who is neither honest or fair. They say they do work that they do not, and over charge for the work they do. I don't know if Dave is aware of this, but one would be better served to find a more honest place to have work done on their car. - Sorry Dave I'll never come back.

I have been a faithful customer for several years & always have had complete trust in this service station, specifically in Joe who schedules appointments. However, last week I brought my car in for inspection, & I was told I needed new tires or my car wouldn't pass NY State inspection. Joe quoted a price for 2 tires, & I did plan to buy them from him within a couple of weeks although his price seemed high. I just happened to have some time a couple of days later, & I left my car with a tire place, just to see what their tire deal would be. The service person called me in an hour to say that my car passed inspection- the tires are fine! Joe from Shell can be charming and always manages to make me laugh; apparently, he was laughing too, every time I paid more than needed for his work. In fact, the day I left the station, Joe said he found an old balance due on a prior bill, $10 to top off fluids during an oil change. I paid him the $ thinking it was possible, and not a large amount to pay. That evening my husband casually mentioned that Joe told him the same thing for his oil change last month. After the false tire episode, we doubt everything Joe has told us! Be warned & question every cost!

I took my car in for State Inspection and asked them to change the oil while they were at it... They charged me for the oil change and 5q of oil... But they never performed the service , which I discovered when I took it to my regular mechanic, who I know and trust, a month later. Gross.
