I purchased over $1,000.00 in pressure treated lumber last year from Saugerties Lumber late Spring and had it delivered to my home. My contractor built a beautiful front porch deck that we were very pleased with. We were told to let the lumber cure for about a year before using a stain/sealer on the deck. Being weekend home owners, we really didn’t see the deck or house all winter as we reside in NYC.We just started coming back to our home and noticed that most of the 6”x6” support posts that we bought from Saugerties Lumber, had we looked to us, like serious vertical cracks. My contractor, who is doing other work on our house looked at the posts and said “they are serious cracks, not just the hairline type expected when wet pressure treated wood drys during the curing stage”.I called Saugerties Lumber as spoke with a very nice man named Bob. I took pictures of the cracks and sent them to him, he in showed those pictures to the owner of Saugerties Lumber who wants nothing to do with my problem, trying to say the cracks are “normal”. All of my research tells me it’s NOT normal for the wood to develope such deep and wide cracking as is happening to my deck wood.I will be taking this issue to court for someone else to decide the final outcome. In the meantime, if you’re planning on purchasing anything from this company, DO NOT expect any type of regard in the way of them standing behind their products.
