I don't even know where to start here - but I guess I'll start by saying that it's too bad I had to leave even 1 star for my review because I wanted to leave none.
I've been leasing VWs for 9+ years now (this is my third car) and never before have I had such a horrific experience prior to this year. My lease was up & I went to trade in my Jetta SEL. I knew I wanted a Jetta, but was not sure which trim I wanted. I was willing to go down a trim if it would save me money, but would not compromise on two things 1) Auto start & 2) heated seats.
I walked into the dealership & Bart Mandaro basically attacked me when I was already talking with another sales guy (that should have been hint enough right there). I communicated CLEARLY!!!! my two non-negotiable things I would not compromise on. Perfect. I also asked for the numbers on financing my current vehicle. He asked me why? I stated, "I really like the color of the exterior/interior of my car" and his response was, "Oh, like every other white girl on Long Island."
I almost choked & fell through the floor. Who said I was white??? How do you know I'm not adopted???? That my friends aren't white???? Do you actually have a brain between your ears???? I have NEVER in my ENTIRE LIFE been so DISGUSTED!
I should have gotten up & walked out then, but I didn't & trust me, I am still kicking myself now. It was horrifying. I was embarrassed for him & was hoping that nobody else heard that obscene comment.
He shows me a Jetta S (Sport), says I cannot test drive the car, but I would need to anyway because that's all that the dealership has that fits my 'requirements' (he meant financial). I want to add: these were not requirements & were always negotiable. I was very open about this. I had what are called PREFERENCES. This man had an agenda to sell this car (I went on a holiday weekend) and never showed me anything else. Long story short - signed the lease, and low & behold... there's no auto-start. I went back the next day. I asked where the autostart was & handed him the key. He looked at the key like I was handing him a tube of lipstick (clueless). Buddy, you work at a dealership - learn your product if you're going to be selling it, or at least be willing to look through the inventory WITH me (he never gave me the time of day - again, he had an agenda to sell THAT trim). I told him, I've leased VWs before - in the app, you can blatantly see if a car has remote start or not & this car does not. He took the key & said, "okay, let me go check" & walks outside to where I am parked (sure, maybe if YOU try it will work). Nothing. He speaks to his manager, Michael Calabrese, and they tell me they would offer to install the remote start for me, but VW has "none in stock" - which I know is false (both then & now - I checked online inventory). Bart finished that conversation off by "reminding" me that "You cannot install it yourself because of lease contract agreements" - pretty sure that's the last thing I care about right now.
I asked to speak to Bart's manager, Michael Calabrese, Bart agreed, but followed me over to his desk. During my conversation with Michael, he rolled his eyes at me. That was so cute & professional.
There isn't much that can be done for me but as a warning to everyone else - do not lease or finance a vehicle from here.
I wouldn't purchase a child's Barbie car from here.
They will not be seeing/hearing the last of me - especially for the racist/sexist comment they made.
And for what it's worth - the car is a piece of junk.

Why isn't "zero" stars an option? Don't bother with service here, my car has been back and forth three times to fix a leak - they fix it, it leaks again - and each time they break something else.
I called yesterday to address a seat delaminating (on a sub 20k mile car) and it turns out the service writer I had been working with is gone. Mind you, that's the third one since 2019. So the service manager won't even get on the phone with me and says (through the girl on the phone) that to address the seat cover failing I would have to pay their diagnostic fee - which is more than the cost of the seat cover and looking at the seat is hardly diagnostic. For owners who lease cars and don't care about their longevity Smithtown VW might be a 5 star service center. They can blow smoke like it's no ones business. But if you plan on caring for your car and keeping it - steer far clear because these guys are incompetent morons.

Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Bought my car out and got a warranty and the whole process was very easy. The staff worked with me throughout making it a very smooth operation.
Service department is easy to work with, and easy to schedule appointments.
My overall experience has been great!

Bad service advisor. I had a coupon for services. And, I asked if that applies to some part replacement costs as well. I received an Yes, and we did a cost estimate together. I agree on the replacement given the estimate. However, after the replacement, they said it cannot applies to the parts replacement. They didn't ask me if I still want the parts replacement if the discount doesn't apply to it. After complaining for a while, they gave me a (much smaller) discount. They should have asked me if I still want the replacement before they did the work.

Had a nice experience with Bart this weekend. Came in with a Jeep Cherokee looking to downsize to the Jetta. He was very straightforward and got me into the car the same day! Thanks!

Excellent start to finish. Sales was great, not pushy at all. Finance guy got me in and out. Got a great offer on my trade in. Definitely recommend if you’re shopping for a VW

Buying the car was a great decision I love my Taos. Brought it in for what I thought was an oil change (wasn’t due) but they checked out my car and found two problems with it. One was definitely covered under warranty the other was originally going to cost me. Jasmine went above and beyond to advocate for me, and I was able to get both issues fixed without cost. Very thankful I bought my car there and for people like those at VW Smithtown like Jasmine!

They took a deposit from me and then I was told that they can’t sell me the vehicle and when I called them they should refund me the deposit I gave them they didn’t answer my calls.

Salesman was totally “mansplaining” to my adult daughter and I the entire time; to the point where he actually said, “Do the math ladies…do the math!” Came out with hand written $ numbers on a piece of paper (extremely high I might add). Nothing concrete or printed. Then “mansplained” again about the economy and how expensive cars are. SERIOUSLY? Don’t insult women you idiot; we’ve got a lot of our own money to spend and believe it or not… we know where NOT to spend it. So we left and went to Platinum VW in Hicksville. Saved a lot of $ for the same car and dealt with an incredibly honest salesman. No hassle and got a printed list of all the costs related to the purchase.

Either a hit or miss. You're either in and out and everything is dandy or they keep you there 11am to closing. (Not a pleasant personal experience)
I did get recalls replaced last year, the mechanics are quick as they can be. I wouldn't buy another car from here or recommend it unless you have a lot of patience and free time.
