60 School St, Glen Cove“I drive a 20-year-old BMW and travel from New York to Vermont and back once a week. I had a radar detector and a phone holder and an aftermarket Bluetooth microphone set up so I could do work while I drive but there were wires everywhere driving me nuts by messing up the very good factory ergonomics of the car.
Making matters worse, the aftermarket options to address the problem considered of extremely cheap Chinese stuff from Amazon that looks wrong or extremely complicated stuff from the German market that looks right.
I wanted it to look right because, even though I've got almost 190,000 miles on the clock, I've kept the car OEM and clean. So I went with the overly complicated German option without a game plan to get it installed, then started poking around the area to see if there was a shop willing to take a crack at it.
When I called these guys they were forthright with me. It's not the kind of work they generally do, because frequently these units are finicky and customers are quick to blame the installer. I told them I was willing to take the risk and they were able to get me in pretty quickly.
I got lucky. The area of the shop where they do their work is as clean as a surgical suite. Everything they did was perfect even though my headliners are so fragile at this point that they will start to degrade if you breathe on them too hard. Everything was set up and tested and they gave me a detailed explanation of which aspects of the system were user friendly and which aspects would require me to review the manual.
There were a lot of little things that they did right, but the one that impressed me most wasn't even related to the primary job. I was the last customer on a Friday evening, and as they were showing me where the wiring was run, I casually mentioned that I had been frustrated by my own inability to properly replace the boot on the handbrake, because I can't find the right size of zip tie. In less than 30 seconds, they produced said strangely-sized zip tie from their inventory of interior parts from the last 30 years, and in less than 5 minutes, they attached it and put the boot back in place without charging me a cent.”
