I could write for hours about my incredible experience with KK9R, but I'll give you the sparknotes.I adopted my dog, Milo from KK9R back in early July and since then I have spent nearly every weekend volunteering to aid this rescue and their amazing mission. The people here truly love dogs and want nothing more than to see dogs find the very best homes for them. From a required supply list, to fresh-food diet requirements, to the emphasis on training, KK9R really are huge advocates for dogs before, during and after they have been adopted. They also have an expansive and knowledgeable alumni network, so if you ever have questions or just want a sense of community, you get that with this rescue.I would recommend this rescue time and time again and will be going to them first the next time I am looking to expand my family!

I've been fostering with Korean K9 for over a year and I can't speak highly enough of the organization. The organizers are incredibly thorough and make themselves available around the clock and as a foster I've always felt supported and appreciated for the work that we do. The organization as a whole works very comprehensively. From the dogs being rescued from shelters, farms, and the streets of Korea they work incredibly hard to make sure that the dogs are trained in basic things like potty training and crate training prior to them coming to the United States and that makes fostering much much easier for obvious reasons. And they also make adopting an incredibly thorough process as well so I feel very confident that when one of my fosters get adopted they're going to go to a really good homes. I feel like Korean K9 has really implemented an exceptionally thorough process from when they're in Korea, during the fostering period, and even after adoption. During the fostering period, any time we have any health or behavior issues with the dogs, the organizers are incredibly responsive and give really good guidance on how to address behaviors. I can keep rambling but I really can't say enough good things about this organization and thank them for all the work they do.

I have volunteered with KK9 for several months now and am incredibly impressed by the dedication and deliberation of their staff. They find the best possible homes for each of the dogs in their care and make sure that all of the adopters are equipped to deal with the types of dogs they are adopting. The dogs get premium care, with trainers, meals and supplements, and every penny goes back to helping these dogs find their new homes. This is the service I wish I had when adopting my own dog and I’m so happy to help an organization I know is doing right by the animals and people.

Edit: Yes, we were approved because she had called our references, and was about to take our money. If we had had $1600 to spare we would have a new dog right now. So, first off, you’re a liar.Second of all, your caretakers knew absolutely nothing about the dog. Every question I had about her they said, “Well, the foster would know more about that since she’s not in our possession.” She was 6 months old, she had been in your possession in another facility (in Korea?) for two months, and had only been transferred to a foster in NYC for a week before the adoption event. I know this because your volunteer said that her mother had been adopted two months ago, and the trainer had trained that dog and confirmed that. Your volunteers didn’t know much about this dog because they told me they just got her. We know a trusted dog trainer already, so we saw no issue with trying to avoid shelling out $750 to someone we don’t know, and without any information about their credentials. Does this 6-month-old puppy who was at a puppy mill for a month or two have trauma that only a Korean dog trainer knows about? Do I need to pay $750 for someone to teach my dog how to sit? The dog trainer we personally know would do that for so much less.“At no point were you ever told we’d never adopt to you, though you can safely assume this now.”LOL because you’re a greedy clown and can’t handle a negative review. You told us we are mysteriously no longer approved, which means that we don’t get to adopt. All because we had asked questions and wished to span out training payments?? Your vindictive pettiness is egregious! And I do have peace knowing that your puppy mill is not getting my money, thanks. ??Original review: Truly one of the worst experiences of any adoption process I’ve ever seen, BY FAR. These people are the most greedy and intrusive I’ve ever met, asking for $1600 up front for a rescue dog after a lengthy interview process and video tour of our house. We were ready to adopt a dog at an adoption event, AFTER we were approved, but were taken aback not because of the $675 adoption fee, but by the additional $750 that they wanted for mandatory training, and some $99 GPS collar. We had just paid rent, and obviously couldn’t afford $1600 right off the bat. We left and hoped that the dog would still be available as we waited for our next paychecks. We sent them an email asking them for more information about who the dog trainers were, since asking for $750 for training before ever meeting them is an exorbitant amount of money. It’s only fair to know who this money is going to, to read reviews of the trainer, etc. They never responded, so I checked their Instagram stories and they had posted a video of one of their trainers. I reached out to him and chatted with him for about half an hour. He was friendly, broke down the costs and let me know what kind of training the dog would need and why, how long it takes, all questions that the people at the adoption event seemed clueless about and couldn’t answer in a straightforward way. It’s like they were just tallying up numbers and speaking from a script. They simply refused to put us on a payment plan or go session by session. The dog trainer told me that the rescue just assigns the $750 5-session training fee to all puppies no matter what. He suggested to ask them for three training sessions to start, and then add two more which he would verify with Korean K9 Rescue. That way we could break up the huge cost. So we emailed them and asked them about what the trainer had suggested. I will soon add screenshots of the emails here so that everyone can see the exchanges. They responded by saying we can no longer adopt dogs from them, and gave us absolutely no reason why, and didn’t even reply to any of our questions in our previous emails. You people are DISGUSTING. You are greedy, classist, and it’s because of you that there are so many homeless dogs out there. Furthermore, your petty responses to the negative reviews on Google are a testimony to your immature and arrogant attitudes.

We love our rescue pup so much and cannot imagine life without him. Yes the fees are high, but you’re truly set up to give your dog the best life possible, they deserve nothing less!

Very grateful to be able to give this little dude a home. Their team knew exactly what food, supplies and training he needed to adapt to NYC. I thought I knew a thing or thing or two about raising dogs but these Korean rescues need special care and proper support.

Few things in this world have made me happier than this little guy. We had a great experience with KK9. They made sure we had every tool and resource necessary to make sure he was successfully acclimated to our home. They explained thoroughly on how to bring my dog into his new home. I've rescued dogs before but these ones coming from Korea, these dogs are known to be major flight risk and super skiddish. Would not recommend for first time dog owners. Working with their trainers, we've made some amazing progress. I've reached out to the KK9 staff on multiple occasions and they are always super helpful and encouraging. I've read reviews complaining about the price but I can say landing a dog from Asia isn't easy or cheap - just the flight and vetting alone costs real money and resources. Every tool they require of you - from training cot/bed and GPS collar to training packages - is a peace of mind and reassurance that you'll set them up for success. I can't thank KK9 enough.

My husband and I feel absolutely traumatized after what we went through. Avoid this organization if you can. They do not smell honest to me. People should look up the other 1-star reviews. Yes, I can afford the +-/$1,700 for a dog (I'm inferring the cost, we didn't get to the bottom line). Something in me didn't agree with finding out the total cost at the last minute, and it colored how I saw this 'organization'. I'm a straight shooter. That's how I'm wired.Friday, we met the dog with our current dog present. We spoke with his foster dad for an extended time. Saturday, we were told that we were approved. Sunday, we drove to Queens, fully expecting to bring home a new family member. Once there, we were told we had to purchase FIVE in-home training sessions ($750 total) for this sweet dog...and a special dog bed because the trainer uses it, and a special leash, and a special crate, a special collar with an annual subscription service, special food... all this after we'd had a zoom interview, giving the interviewer a tour of our home. I am sure they were able to see from the tour that we could afford it. On the call, I had asked about the training sessions and was provided a vague response. Note that this 'organization' already had the dog over month, yet didn't have their act together about items we'd need to purchase nor the number of training sessions until that uncomfortable, crucial moment, when we were picking him up. We'd filled out an extensive form online but they asked once again for our names and email addresses. Not really 'organized'.When we bought our electric car this year, we knew exactly what we were getting into financially. Not the case, here. These people use dogs as emotional pawns. I have to wonder whether this 'organization' gets kickbacks from the things they require of you. We offered to give them a donation instead of a specific dog bed that we won't need, but no. Why that dog bed? Why that trainer? Why five sessions? It's just odd. No other rescue does this. His breed is known for separation anxiety, which you cannot train away. We rescued our current dog without any raised beds or goats milk, rather with patience and love.I felt very sad for the dog and wanted to rescue him from THEM, since he was penned in the corner of their chaotic, hot office. Ultimately after trying to negotiate at length, and having been emotionally attached to this dog, we walked away because of the bad taste we had. I am floored they actually have successful adoptions. I guess some people feel coerced and just hand over their credit card, thinking this 'organization' knows better? My car analogy is simple. An 'organization' should present a clear idea to their customer of the purchase agreement. That is Business 101. It is not totally about the money, to us. We are fortunate to be able afford it. It's the shifty, inflexible terms that are presented at the very end, when one is literally ambushed. Though it was incredibly difficult, I am glad we walked away when we did. I do not care to deal with these people who think they know everything. There are many other deserving animals in need out there.

The application process is extremely tedious, even more so if you wanna foster. I don’t know what these people were thinking when they put up these requirements.“Let’s make people jump through hoops!”

We rescued Ruthie from KK9R four years ago and are so thankful we did. She is the perfect addition to our family.KK9R’s application process is very easy to navigate and organized. Their website has a ton of great info and they’re transparent about adoption fees etc. We have learned a ton since getting Ruthie and are so happy to have adopted from this group.I have recommended a lot of friends to adopt from the group since I had such a lovely experience. We have made a ton of dog and human friends through their robust alumni network. They do amazing work rescuing pups from the S. Korean meat trade and are very invested in their continued efforts to end it.

I adopted my rescue dog from Korean K9 in 2019 and started fostering for them this year, as we have learned so much from helping our pup Cali open up and get used to the hectic city of NYC!KK9R does amazing work in Korea to save dogs from terrible conditions like dog meat farms, being chained up, and hoarding situations. These dogs deserve a great life in a loving home, and in many cases they need plenty of recovery time and care to adjust to the good life.I very much respect KK9R for their strict policies in finding the right home that suits each dog's needs. It might not be the easiest process, but I appreciate knowing that their rescue dogs will recover, be cared for and live their best lives at the right forever home.

We adopted Kori in June 2021-we were first time adopters and she was our third try with KoreanK9. The first two dogs we applied for in May 2021 had long lists of applicants and were quickly adopted, but that didn't deter us from trying again and the third time was the charm! Looking back, everything was meant to be. We truly feel we were destined to be with Kori. Kori's adoption day went very smoothly--KoreanK9's process was very well-structured and set us up for success. There was a supplies checklist that provided us with the essentials Kori would need, and there was a thorough orientation we had to attend before taking Kori home. We were very well-informed and knew what to expect from Day 1, including what to do and what NOT to do. We were very impressed with the level of detail from the onboarding process (there were instruction videos for how to feed, how to guide your dog if they don't want to walk, and more!!) and the level of involvement from the adoption team. There were very strict guidelines we had to follow, which could seem daunting, but all for good reasons. Regardless, we felt prepared and very supported throughout the whole process and even to this day!Fast forward several months, we decided to foster for KK9 as a way to give back to the rescue and pay it forward to another pup in need. Similar to our adoption experience, we were first time fosters yet felt prepared and supported by KK9's foster team (who I think are angels in disguise)--they provided us food, treats, goat's milk, meal toppers, meds, collars and leashes. The foster instruction manual is THOROUGH but SO important and informative. We never felt like our foster dog was "just another dog" to KK9--they know every foster dog by name and care about every one of them.Fostering has been so rewarding in so many ways. We're happy we get to provide a safe home for another pup, Kori has some furry companionship, and we get to learn more about how to be even better pawrents! I could go on and on, but you can see actions speak for itself. KK9 has a large alumni community and support because we believe in KK9's mission and want to help them however we can. Thank you KK9 for the positive impact you've had on our lives!

It's been a wonderful experience volunteering with KK9R as a foster parent to these pups. I have been following their work for years now and never quite felt ready to step forward as a foster. But when the opportunity presented itself, I took the plunge. The application process was quick but thorough, with clear communication on the expectations for a foster dog parent. Although I've never owned a dog myself, I never felt in thrown in the deep end - the team at KK9R is responsive and incredibly supportive. The organizational skills of the team blew me away. The foster manual is well written and full of useful information and standards. The communication over slack is great to share experiences with the community and give updates on the foster dogs. Finally, the foster diary is another great example of discipline to ensure that the rescue team is well apprised on the well-being of the dogs. The great communication, organization and professionalism really emphasizes how much they care about these dogs. Any time I was challenge by a dog's quirk, someone from the team offered to jump on a zoom call to give tips and support. Really proud to be a small part of the team supporting KK9R. I'm currently on my third foster pup and love how I've been able to connect and follow the new lives of my former foster pups.

If you aren't high income Asian or a white couple don't even bother. The interview process was a nightmare. Will be better off rescuing a dog from a puppy mill than deal with this organization.
