I do reccomend Stop And Shop in Poughkeepsie. When I first attended this supermarket, I had a good experiences. Unfortunately the last 2 years the quality of service has declined. I have two reasons that concern me.

This Stop & Shop is awful. The store is filthy, and extremely poorly maintained. It does have a big selection of items and is well stocked. The floral department is great and has a nice selection of beautiful flowers and plants. The bakery is also good. They've got a wide variety of baked goods that looked tasty and fresh. The deli sandwiches looked fresh and were well stocked. Chicken was all hot and fresh as well. They recently got a hot wing bar and that looked excellent with a nice variety of fresh wings to choose from. Seafood looked fine as well. Meats looked ok, but not great. Several packages of ground beef had juices pooled all at the bottom, which didn't look too good. The steaks didn't look too fresh either. The produce was mediocre here. Some of the strawberries and cabbages looked good, but I found some peppers that were cracked and old looking. I also saw a display of cauliflower on sale, but almost each one had mold on it. I also found expired items on several times I've been here. Most Stop & Shops seem to have a big issue with expired items, and this is no exception. Make sure you check the dates! The store overall is very filthy and badly maintained. The parking lot has a lot of litter scattered around. The cart corals have a lot of trash and litter scattered everywhere, and look very old and filthy. The entrances are filthy and the doors don't work properly. On my last visit, the exit door was completely broken so you had to push it open to get out of the store. The floors inside are very worn, cracked, scuffed, and dirty throughout the store. Not clean and shiny like other locations. I saw a a huge puddle of spilled milk on the floor. An employee came over and put a cone next to it, but never cleaned it up. I was in the store for about half an hour and the spilled milk was never cleaned up. That is disgusting. Spills should immediately be tended to, but not here. In the produce section, there were scattered onion peels, and corn peels on the floor. The freezers are all peeling apart at the bottom and don't work properly. Ice cream is iced over and the freezers leak at times. The ceiling above the dairy section has black mold all over 4-5 ceiling panels. Look up there, it's disgusting. The hallway leading to the bathrooms smells bad, and the bathrooms are filthy! They smell awful and look disgusting. They are so gross. The deli cases look dirty. I overheard a worker behind the deli counter complain that "it's a mess back here and needs to be cleaned. It's so disgusting." To which another employee replied "yeah, we'll get to it sometime, don't know when". If you stand in the Last organic aisle next to the deli, you can see how messy and dirty it is back there. Boxes everywhere, filthy floor. Don't buy any deli foods here! The staff don't seem to care about the store or customers. I once heard a staff member cursing about a personal issue in front of customers at checkout. Recently, 3 employees in the bakery were making fun of a customer they previously had. They were calling her all sorts of nasty names, and cussing. So rude and unprofessional. Overall, this Stop & Shop is absolutely disgusting. There is no excuse for how filthy, and badly maintained the building is. It's disgusting, has rude staff, and food isn't fresh. When management changed in early 2019 it began to improve but is now worse than ever. I would recommend going to the Hyde Park or South Rd Poughkeepsie locations. South Rd is much better managed, has a wider selection, and nicer staff. Hyde Park is much cleaner, much better maintained, has a larger selection, nicer staff, and an appealing look to the store. This location desperately needs improvement and better management. After today's visit, I'm never coming to this Stop & Shop again. It was really, really bad today.
