The Potsdam Food Co-op has come a long way since its beginning as a Buying Club in 1972. As a consumer cooperative, the Potsdam Co-op exists for the benefit of the people who use it. The Potsdam Consumer Cooperative, Incorporated is owned and operated by its members and is dedicated to meeting the community's need for specialty and whole foods at the lowest possible cost. The co-op strives to provide a pleasant shopping experience and working environment, with an emphasis on education, shared information, and developing its relationship with the community. The co-op offers a good selection of locally grown produce and meat, as well as organic and vegan foods. The bakery, which has recently scaled back its in-house baking, now offers excellent Heidelberg bread. The co-op also provides a wide variety of prepared foods for lunches, including wraps, sandwiches, soups, and breakfast sandwiches, many of which are vegan. Customers praise the co-op's great people, great service, and wide range of local, organic, vegan, and vegetarian options, as well as plastic-free household items. The bakery's Nourish Bakery is also highly regarded, offering a nutritious and tasty variety of sourdough mini loaves.
The store is a gem. I love the Heidelberg Bread and the Montreal Bagels. Yesterday I bought a jar of Brooklyn Delhi Cashew Butter Masala Simmer Sauce, and heated it with paneer, coconut milk, spinach, kale, and I served it over basmati rice. A truly warming meal.
