My friend got his black cat from here and I have another friend that volunteers. I love that we have a very local animal rescue. I’m excited to get more involved.

We had a terrible experience at Save A Pet, & would recommend you go elsewhere if you want to adopt a pet. My elderly mom's cat passed away a few weeks ago, & we thought it would be nice to get a shelter cat as a new pet for her. We called Save A Pet & explained the situation , my mom wanted an older cat as she is elderly herself, & they said they had some. We went there last week, & she was shown a 10 year old cat named Charlotte. We were sad to see so many cats being kept in small cages , & my mom decided she wanted to take Charlotte & give her a good home. We filled out an application -including 2 references - & waited. We got a call on Weds. afternoon that they had reviewed the application & spoken to our references, that everything was good to go & to come on Thurs with a cat carrier to take Charlotte home. My mom was really excited to be getting a new cat, as she lives on her own ( with aides coming in daily) & is lonely since her cat passed away. When we got there, things were chaotic. The woman we had spoken to wasn't there, & she hadn't left a note that we were picking the cat up. When the woman that was covering at the front desk found out that my mom's previous cat was an outdoor cat, she apparently became nervous that my mom would let Charlotte out , & told us (again) that she was an indoor cat that could never go out. We explained (again- we had explained this the first time we went there) that my mom's previous cat had been a feral cat for several years before she adopted him , & that she & all of her family & supporting people would make sure the new cat never got out. The woman then got up without saying anything & went in the back of the building, leaving us sitting there for almost an hour. We thought she had gone to get things together for us to take the cat, but we finally asked what was going on – the people at the front desk had no idea & went to find her. About 10 minutes later she came back & asked to speak to me privately. She again expressed concern that the cat would get out & implied that my mom was too feeble minded to see that it wouldn't. I explained it wouldn’t be an issue – my mom does have some cognition issues, but is more than capable of keeping the cat indoors, not to mention all the support she has at home to help. She said ok, show the people upfront your driver’s licenses & she’d be there in a few minutes. She then came out & said she couldn’t get a hold of her boss, & we couldn’t take the cat. She said they would call us the next day. My mom walked in there feeling great, & walked out feeling like 2 cents! She asked them on the way out ,”do you think I’m too old?” They assured her they didn’t. My mom isn’t stupid, she knew they suddenly didn’t trust her. On the way home she was saying, “They think I’m an idiot.”, They think I’m too old”, "What did i do wrong?"The next day Save a pet never called, so I called them that afternoon asking to explain to us exactly why they did what they did. Of course no one we had spoken to was there, & they said they'd have someone call us back. Once again, they never called. They made a woman in her 80s who's already dealing with her friends passing away or going into nursing homes feel even worse. A 10 year old cat would have had a great home, & is now stuck in a small cage. Go elsewhere - we don't know how they treat animals, but they certainly don't treat people very well!

We have adopted Nitro an American Bulldog mix. What a gentle soul. Loves my senior dog Max, ? excellent with other animals and people. The volunteers are very loving and caring. So if you decide to adopt, volunteer and want to change an animals life and go from hopeless to hopeful...I highly recommend this rescue.

The best animal shelter on the planet. Save-A-Pet staff and volunteers go above and beyond to care for their animals. Volunteers take their dogs on adventures and make sure to socialize their dogs before they leave the shelter. They even help train some the dogs the best they can before they find their forever homes.

Worst animal shelter ever I feel bad for the animals that are here. Horrible to work with, judges every customer based on nothing but the way they come across when they first walk in. They keep their cats in small cages and don’t let them roam around at all. They are not willing to work with you and are extremely rude. I felt sick to my stomach in there. My friend adopted a kitten who just had been neutered and they told her he was good to come home. She brought him home and he stopped eating, wasn’t moving, became very bloated and sick. She called the vet and they told her it’s a huge emergency and the shelter messed it all up. I am truly disgusted with this shelter and will never step for into a place that mistreats their animals and customers. One volunteer did not even know which treats were for kittens versus adult cats and none of them could figure it out. I wish I could take all the animals out of there and save them from a place called save a pet .. horrifying and horrible people. To be stuck in small cages until someone chooses to adopt them is such torture. I highly recommend south Hampton animal shelter or Kent animal shelter over this place.

I love this place I got my 7 month old puppy Sky spayed here in March. They took good care of her I was nervous I cried as it was my first experience spaying an animal. (First time pet parent) They did good, was given medication that fit her she was back to her old self fast. I brought her in at 9am and they were done at 1230pm. I felt safe leaving here there and I tell all my friends about this place!
