I really hate leaving reviews like this and I sincerely hope the stylist just had an off day or something. The experience + cut isn't horrible but it's just not satisfactory either.
To be blunt (much like the ends of my hair) - I was googling supercuts and other fast haircut places <30min after leaving this place. Everything about the experience gave me an off vibe and I wasn't comfortable to question or complain.
1) Had a morning appointment right as they opened and I felt like I was an inconvenience. It's entirely possible I was misreading the vibe but they just didn't feel friendly or welcoming.
2) There was no softening done on the ends of the cut - almost always been standard at every place I've gone to for a trim unless you specifically asked for it not to be softened - it was just a quick straight lap around me, cut dry which was super weird to me but who am I to question the stylist. I was just asked for a length check (me expecting that the cut would be cleaned up once the length was good) but then boom we were done.
It's evenish, and doesn't look horrible at a quick glance, but move the hair in any direction and you can immediately see the bluntness and the hair separates weirdly as a result. Putting it into a ponytail isn't even an option because it just makes it so much more obvious. I haven't gone to another place yet because I'm out $75 for this, but I expect it'll have to go a decent bit shorter to make it look natural again which sucks.
I felt so rushed out that I didn't even have a moment to sit and digest the final look or suggest additional changes. I also didn't feel heard when trying to explain what I wanted, something I already struggle with from not being shy and not super knowledgeable about hair. I sent photos of the results to several people to make sure I wasn't being dramatic about how it turned out, and they agreed that it isn't *horrific* (minus one audible "yikes" reaction) but the experience was weird and the cut subpar for $60 + tip.

The best salon in New York! The team at Salon 5W is awesome. With junior stylists Caitlin and Theresa, the price point is great and I am always so pleased with their work! They always bring my Pinterest board inspo to life!

I didn’t want to have to leave a bad review for this salon so I waited until I had washed and dried my hair before doing so. I cannot believe the chop job that was done on my hair. I asked for long layers and a face frame, simple. My stylist said she’d been cutting hair for 6 years, it seems more like 6 minutes. The layers are harsh, uneven, and the hair is longer in the front than the back. I am horrified. I have to now go somewhere else to see if it can be saved without giving myself a bob cut.
Not to mention, the sinks bruised the back of my neck and they don’t take credit cards.
EDIT: I reached out to the salon and the owner kindly offered me a refund, as well as fixing it for free. Extra stars for good customer service.

Very friendly and busy salon yet always punctual and organized. Teresa is my hairdresser who begins with the most thorough and relaxing shampoo. She is extremely polite, focused, and has succeeded in maintaining my signature hair style.
