The Oneonta YMCA, while in an older building, packs in a TON of areas for workouts for an amazing price.I also love how it offers so many youth recreation opportunities in a safe, clean, and fun environment. You can tell the thought and care that is put into this place and the staff is very dedicated.10/10 Highly recommend

Staff at the desk after 3 on Fridays can use some better training. Not only did she leave us standing out in the cold instead of letting us in the entry way where it was warm( bc we look like thugs) but she was also too lazy to show us to the pool as if we instinctively know our way around the place.

They have a lot of exercise equipment and swimming, as well as other facilities. I used it sometimes about a year before the pandemic. What I liked most were the elliptical machines and bikes, the weights' room, and the indoor racquetball court that I used for practice hitting tennis balls, practicing my serve and slice. Their elliptical machines are many, they even had some that I did not see in a fancy gym in Manhattan, NYC. They also have a small outdoor courtyard accessible from the Y interior. I love to swim, but never had a chance to try it there. I am used to going to different gyms for many years in NYC and when I moved permanently to Upstate, NY, I found this Y an ideal gym, in some instances much better than most of the gyms in NYC.What I did not like was the location of the sauna, and whirlpool bath, this was not in a separate area near the woman's locker room and too close to a weight room.I would rejoin, but I am not COVID vaccinated. I miss going there for exercise but will have to wait. I wish they had giant outside ball walls, multipurpose for a variety of sports--not just handball. There are supposedly no outdoor ball walls anymore in Otsego County, NY or Schoharie County, NY.

Inexpensive but equipment is well used and facilities a little run downFirst off I only used the four exercise and weight rooms. I did not use the pool or any other facilities.Cardio room:. The cardio room was actually pretty up-to-date and modern( see pictures). Most of the machines were relatively new, clean, and indecent conditionWeight machine room: extremely old cybex equipment (see pictures). Not a lot of machines maybe 15 in total. So not a lot of options and since the machines were pretty old a lot of them did not have a means to reconfigure for different size people.Weight room (dumbbells and barbells):. Again also very dated (see pictures). If you're like me and have a bit of OCD with your plates it's very difficult to find the matching plates as there's probably three or four different brand plates to match up. So you kind of have to look around the room to find the matching plate for each size. Also I found the decline bench non-configurable and a bit large with no way to reconfigure. The dumbbells were missing a few sizes so you either had to jump up by 5 lb or do more reps.Cross fit room:. You'll have to look at my pictures for this one as I only briefly spend some time in hereOverall you can't beat the price as it was $3 for why members, free for Y national members and who knows how much if you don't already have a Y membership. For me however, if you plan on doing resistance training and not cardio I would have rather spent the $15 to go to a newer gym down the road (Table Rock). If you only plan on doing cardio or swimming this might be the right place for you.

This is the best place I ever joined for community. My kids love all the people here and I take yoga classes and also use their work out rooms. Very clean and friendly place

Place is nice, but it has really inconvenient hours for people who work a lot. Wish they were open till 10 or 11pm for people who exercise after work.

Since I have joined the Y they have really cut back on the amount of adult lap swim they offer in the evenings. If you are a swimmer who can only make it in the evenings, it's virtually impossible to swim anymore because they've cut back both the hours for adult swim as well as the number of lanes. With only one or two lanes open, it's very crowded and I find I have to wait longer than it's worth for a spot in the pool. I understand that space is limited and the Y has to honor all of their programs but just wanted warn other adult swimmers that it's not an ideal place, unfortunately. Too bad their pool isn't larger ): This Y has great swim team and lesson programs for kids but sadly it's at the expense of adult patrons.

The Oneonta Family YMCA has welcomed me and my family since we’ve moved here in 2016. Some of the most friendliest staff and reliable resources, have been established here. I am grateful to say that I have met most of my closest friends, and have gotten acquainted with the community through the ‘Y’. I have worked for this company and enjoy returning in support of family events. Thanks for being apart of my transition Upstate. Forever a supporter!
