After the 3rd time having issues with this branch. I'm finishedPromised free checking and get hit with a $290.00 set of debit fees on my account. When you promise a customer free checking.. keep your word.I think this bank needs to clean house.

I hate to be this guy but if you are of African descent stay far away from this branch. I went in for a small withdrawal because my debit card is taking forever to arrive and was treated like I was there to commit a robbery. The teller returned with a story that she had to call the "Back office" (whoever they are), to verify my identity, which was odd because just a week prior I was physically at a branch and they verified my business documents as well as my identity.I would also like to add the customer service department over the phone handled the situation professionally and respectfully, but the North Salem branch has behaved in a way that has resulted in me closing the account and separating business with M&T all together.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with other people, but I have absolutely no issues with this bank all together in my experience, even if you need a personal checking account or savings account.

Do yourself a favor and avoid M&T at all costs, especially if you plan on doing business outside of the local area! Problems and poor service abound: to begin with, M&T finds more ways to nickel and dime their customers than any other bank with which I've worked. The most egregious example of this is the $3 service fee to use any non-M&T ATM; I've often though I would have more luck finding Atlantis than an M&T machine (especially when venturing outside of NYC). That M$T charges for ACH bank transfers when banks like Chase and Citi allow you to do them for free is likewise infuriating. Furthermore, the bank's website looks and feels like it hasn't been updated since the 1990s, which would be tolerable if the functionality wasn't also minimal: doing even the simplest things, such as ordering new checks or updating account information, ranges from stressful to downright impossible (I can't update my mailing information or P.I.N. online? Seriously?). The only reason I gave this bank 2 stars is because the customer service representatives are quite knowledgeable, if you can actually get through to one through the morass that is the automated phone system.
