Super convenient one stop shop if you are craving something quick and Japanese near Grand Central. There is fresh sushi and chirashi available from Oksana, made to order onigiri from Omusubi Gonbei, and ramen from Brooklyn Ramen. Like most Japanese grocery chains in the city, they also have house made bentos that I believe are discounted towards the end of the day. The line snakes around the entire store during the lunch rush, so I would advise avoiding it if possible. Although the line moves quickly, definitely factor in an extra 20 minutes if you brave the lines then.

This time, I arrived at Katagirl Grocery in the afternoon and still missed out on the soup cutoff. If you're keen on trying it, it's best to arrive before 2 pm. The ambiance isn't a factor here since you can only dine at the Ramen shop inside the grocery store. The service and food quality remained consistent as always. However, the pre-made bento box at $12 is comparable to what I could get at a restaurant for lunch, so I prefer it fresh. I usually opt for the rice balls labeled Bomb, Takana, Salmon, and Chashu Pork. Despite the quick line at the checkout, the process is efficient. Overall, I had a positive experience and would recommend this place. Plus, you can save time in looking for a Hawaiian spot in NY as the spam here looks like ones in Hawaii.

Katagiri is the oldest Japanese grocery in the US. Known for their onigiri, a quick stop was made to snag one of these babies. Entering the store, an abundance of pre-made onigiri can be spotted. All of their offerings are in plain view and are ready for purchase. They have a wide selection of authentic Japanese products, including fresh produce, sushi-grade fish, snacks, sauces, and kitchenware . Take-away bento, ramen, chirasi, sushi, sashimi, omusubi gonbei, donburi, musubi....are also available at a reasonable price. Everything is fresh. If you're unsure about anything, ask, the staff is friendly and helpful. The Takana Onigiri was really good. I'll be back for more (Onigiri) along with a sushi and sashimi take-away.

I like the food and the ambiance of this place. Lots of options available for eating with groceries to shop for. I like the quick access to omusubi by the door. A quick walk from Grand Central Terminal. Would highly recommend.

I love getting lunches here and they now also have sushi fresh from the Osaka fish market. With inflation prices for lunch in most places are insane but here it's actually pretty reasonable. Also great for picking up any small Japanese grocery items you may need.

This is a Japanese grocery as well as restaurants. The food is varied and delicious. Prices are fair, especially since it's fresh and many imported items. Fresh noodle bar, fried chicken, sushi, and desserts.

Great lunch spot. Cheaper than most in the area and lots of variety. Both ready-to-eat options and make-it-yourself options at home. Highly recommend! No seating inside, but public seating down the block near Grand Central.

Popped in just to see what they had and great selection. I'm always on the hunt for Kit Kats and they had a few in their selection. Would have loved to get some of their fresh meals however, was out and about. I'll keep this in mind when in the Bryant Park area. The ladies assisting with checkout were so sweet and friendly.

We sought out this spot in NYC and felt so happy about our impromptu lunch! The store has delicious-looking variety of fresh foods - tempura sets, tonkatsu, sushi bowls, sashimi and nigiri. When you first walk into the store, on the left is an entire station of onigri with trays of many, many types, all hot! We opted for a mostly salmon sushi plate, tender fresh takoyaki, and several onigri. We almost went back for more and we loved their hot, diverse selection of onigri better than any of the other takeaway stores we stopped visited in the city. Highly recommend and would love to come back!
