Animal General hospital has been one of the most credible veterinary facilities on the Upper West Side for decades. The veterinarians and staff are personable & very professional. Highly recommended!

Terrible. I was happy here for years but then got passed to a younger vet that gave me bad recommendations that almost killed my cat. First, told me to lower dose when that was incorrect, & charged me for her mistake. Then incorrectly diagnosed autoimmune as blindness and as a neurological disorder, making me spend on another vet & another eye doctor. Ran me an extra $2000.Save yourself and go to a mobile vet, this is expensive, rude and they even chased me with collections for the last bill after almost killing my cat.

Closer to my house incase of an emergency. But I am always left 30-40 in waiting room after my scheduled time. This really upsets me. I keep a card on file and always arrive early and wait patiently. Last visit my 9lb yorkie got his anal glands drained. He was red and swollen and sleepless 4 days and counting after. I call to inquire and no call back. I hate the way they dismiss me and my dog. I dont understand the mistreatment. I want a new vet...a kinder vet but they are closest.

Animal General is the best vet we have ever been to. The staff is second to none, they are so warm and take such wonderful care of our dog Bill. We are always able to get last minute emergency appointments which is so comforting to know. The best part of this practice is that the Vet will follow up via call or text to check in and make sure your pet is responding well to any treatment provided. It is so sweet and greatly appreciated. I cannot recommend Animal General enough!

My family and I have tried many places over the years but this location is the best vet office in Manhattan. Incredible doctors and staff. Super proactive. Everyone was so kind, respectful, professional, really give you the time and energy that is necessary with our Dog. Never feeling rushed. Not overcrowded. Beyond grateful for what they have done for us and at peace knowing that they are always there to help when necessary.

I went there cause my cat throw up and sneezing due to stress, they recommended treatment, blood test and x way. TBH, I don’t get why they will need x way, I told them I was pretty sure my cat didn’t eat anything random, but they insisted. However my cat dose recover quickly with the IV drip treatment, and they call the following two days to check up, so I have nothing to complain about their service, but I may not come back this place, because I will prefer to go to a vet that only recommends necessary treatment and test.

The doctors are very knowledgeable and caring. They always call to ask how my dog is doing. I have complete faith and trust in their abilities. In addition the staff are also great. I would highly recommend these veterinarians to care for your dog or cat!!

Animal General has been our family vet in Manhattan for more than 3 years. The vets are very professional and gentle with our dog. The staff, especially Megan is the best, she has been amazing since day 1.

My family has been bringing our pets to Animal General for many, many years. However, it is literally not what it used to be. Within the past year or so, the practice was sold to Thrive Pet Healthcare, a large corporation that I believe is owned by Petco (?). This happened very quietly-- I only found out about it when I noticed that the cost of my dog's annual wellness exam had gone WAY up, and I inquired about it. Only then was I informed that "prices did go up per our corporate office." That was when I looked at Animal General's website and found that it is now just one of many "locations" on Thrive Pet Healthcare's sprawling website.Cost IS a concern for me, but not when it comes to my dog's health. In other words, I could deal with the price increase (and even the sneaky switch to corporate management) if I still trusted Animal General to provide my dog with the best possible care. Unfortunately, this isn't the case.I brought my dog in for her lepto vaccine on 12/10. That vaccine always makes my dog very sore, so I asked the nurse to give her a pain medication along with it. He said he would. Three hours later, my dog was walking with a limp, trembling, and screaming in pain whenever I picked her up, and I noticed no pain medication was listed on the invoice from her visit. Normally, Animal General makes sure to charge extra for everything (see also: $26.25 for a nail trim on this same visit), so this made me strongly suspect she had not been given the pain meds I asked for. By this time, their office was closed. In the past (before the corporate takeover?), I believe there was a way to reach a vet after hours in case of emergency, but now Animal General's voicemail just suggests going to AMC. When I called AMC to explain the situation, I was told that they would not be able to give my dog any medicine without knowing, for sure, whether or not she had already been given any. And I had no way of finding that out. When I called Animal General the next morning, a different nurse informed me that "in the doctor's notes previously, it was recommended that your dog receive a meloxicam injection with her lepto vaccine, but it wasn't in the doctor's notes for this visit so the nurse followed the doctor's notes."So, basically, the vet knew that my dog always has this reaction to lepto vaccines, but neglected to make a note of this. And the nurse, for some reason, did not inform me that he had changed his mind and decided not to give my dog the medication that he told me he would give her. And then there was no way to reach anyone after hours, so I couldn't even go to AMC to get the medicine that Animal General should have given my dog in the first place. Fortunately, the pain from the vaccine wore off within 48 hours (which is still, obviously, more pain than I ever want my dog to experience). But this complete failure in communication makes me feel I can no longer trust Animal General. What else might be left out of the vet's notes, in the future? What else might the nurse decide to do or not do, without telling me? Oh, also, when I requested my dog's medical records, so I could look for a different vet, I noticed that on the first page she was incorrectly identified as "female (intact)"-- as opposed to spayed, which of course she is. Such carelessness in a medical setting is... bad.

The absolute best doctors and staff of any veterinarian we have worked with in the city. Everyone here is so helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. All of the doctors and staff have been wonderful to work with! We are so grateful to have such a wonderful vet close by and helping us with our beloved cat.

Literally the best vets in the area. After spending thousands of dollars between Both Riverside practices and Gotham General (avoid at all costs), I could not be happier to have settled with Dr.Stuchin with my dogs.
